Hawke smiled as she gazed at the fire, her beloved's arms around her. She knew she had to leave this small sanctuary soon. But for now she just wanted to sit here with him, in the quiet peace that they had finally found.

Hawke sighed as she heard the banging on the door. "Looks like we have to go."

Her lover groaned in annoyance. "Can't the others hand one day on their own?"

Hawke reluctantly disentangled herself from his arm. "Come on Fenris. You know that I need you out there with me."

"Sometimes I think they do this just to interrupt our time together."

"They'll come around. Varric and Merril don't mind."

As the small group walked through the Bone Pit, checking on the workers, Anders kept shooting distrusting looks at Fenris. The two had never gotten along, but ever since Fenris and Hawke had gotten back together, the tension had grown stronger.

"I don't know what she sees in you." Anders mutered.

"Frankly I don't think it's any of your business."

Varric interrupted the argument before it could get out of hand. "Hey Broody. Speaking of you and Hawke. I've been meaning to ask you some things. I want to make sure I got all the details when I tell this story. Did you sweep her off her feet, or was it the other way around?"

Fenris smirked at the story teller. "I'll only tell you this. There was no actual sweeping involved."

Varric grinned back. "Every little bit helps, elf."

Hawke smiled as she listened to Fenris read from the book 'A slave's life'. They were different in so many ways. He was an elf, she was a human. He had been a slave, while she lived on the run from Templers. But then again they weren't all that different. They had both had magic forced on them from a young age. They had both lost their homes and their families. Most may look at them and think they had nothing in common, but really they were more alike than most.

Anders glared at Fenris as they walk toward Hightown. He grabed Hawkes arm when no one was looking and pulled her a little away.

"He's going to hurt you."

Hawke blinked in confusion. "What?"

Anders nodded over at Fenris. "He hurt you once he'll do it again."

Hawke glared at him, and snatched her arm back. "You don't know anything about Fenris and I, Anders, so don't act like you do."

"I know that he doesn't even know to treat you well."

"I love him, Anders." Hawke said firmly.

"I know that. But that doesn't change the fact that he's already hurt you once. What's to stop him doing it again?"

"I need him, Anders." Hawke said quietly. "I can't imagine my live without him anymore."

With that she turned and walked off. Anders sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. Hawke was more stubborn than a Mabari. He walked over to Fenris and tapped his arm. When he turned around Anders gave him a stern look.

"Listen Casanova. I care about Hawke like a sister, with all that that entails. If you hurt her again, you will be the first that I will willingly unleash Justice on. Are we clear?"

"Crystal."

Fenris walked over to Hawke and wrapped an arm around her. The smile Hawke directed at him was enough to make Anders smile too.

Two weeks later Hawke and Fenris were sitting in front of the fire at Hawke's estate. It was almost noon and there hadn't been, so much as a peep out of their companions.

"I wonder if Anders told them we were taking the day off." Hawke giggled.

Fenris grinned at his love. "I'm not complaining."

Hawke smiled and looked into Fenris' green eyes. "Always be with me."

"Always."
