"Pregnant?" he asked in disbelief.
She nodded and watched as a wide medley of emotions flashed across his face, first confusion, which was followed by comprehension. Shock and finally complete joy soon followed.
He opened his mouth several times to speak, but nothing came out. "But how?" he asked when he finally found his voice.
Kate laughed softly. "Well, you see, when two people love each other..." she said, trailing off as he groaned.
"Kate."
She smiled at her husband. "I don't know how it finally happened. And honestly, I don't care. I just know that right now, I have everything I could ever want," she told him softly. "You, this child. And I love you both more than I ever thought possible."
"I love you so much, baby," he whispered before gently brushing his lips across hers.
