Hold Your Head High
Disclaimer: I don't own anything.
Rosalie stared into the water her eyes empty. Golden, beautiful but…empty. She felt empty too. She wasn't alone, far from it. She had Edward, Esme and Carlisle and they were lovely they really were. She liked Edward for…well not the most part but held affection for him and Esme was delightful in her way and Carlisle was intelligent and someone she could admire. Oh she was bitter about being changed, disliked that they had done it but it wasn't necessarily their fault she knew. They didn't know this, at all because Edward never delved deep enough in her thoughts to see it, if he even could. No one had ever tested his limits before as he was unhappy enough being able to hear and know what he could.
She was selfish, she knew, proud, arrogant, and haughty. She was not like the others. She took everything for granted like she had before. She was content to live a life richer than the rest, she disliked humans. Edward knew the real reason and she was thankful he never betrayed that. She was not angry at the humans for being lesser, she was jealous of their mortality of their ability to be fertile and full of life. She had nothing to look forward to, no mate, no children, not even death. Death was thrilling, it was supposed to be exciting a world beyond the one they knew. She would never know it, not really, not in the same way for she had already died.
Hold your head high, Rosalie thought to herself, before they all see you crumble. It was strange, moments like these when she was alone because she could see her faults to a point where she hated herself. Perhaps she did dislike herself a little bit, not the monster even the fact that she was so cold, so callous towards Edward, Esme and Carlisle the three that belonged together more than she did. She had no real ties to anyone but Carlisle whose venom had turned her from the bleeding, dying, dirty young woman on the ground into…this. Whatever this was, she felt the bitter thought run through her head before she could stop herself.
The wind blew and a scent was on it. A strangely familiar, painful scent that made her stand made her instincts take control. Rosalie's stride took off, making her move faster towards it. She wasn't quite sure where it was coming from, a rational part of her mind told her to run the other way but she couldn't. The scent was too alluring, to warm to pull away from.
It was coming from a clearing. She froze, staring at the sight of a giant bear standing over a broken form that was still alive. She didn't think, she moved quickly her arm hitting the bear before she could even stop herself. The shatter of the neck snapped her out of her trance. She looked at the human, the beautiful bloody human laying on the ground before her alive but just barely. She looked closely to see whose life she knew she was going to take because the temptation was just too strong and froze.
A beautiful boy or man really laid there. She gazed down at him, entranced all over again but this time by something she never thought she'd feel for a human...protection. She didn't think, didn't feel just grabbed his broken body and picked him up. He was shattered; the bear had done a good job at defending itself against a weaker opponent.
She wasn't sure how long she could last but she had to try. Her voice broke out of her before she could stop it.
"CARLISLE!" it was one piercing scream which made the body in her arms start, "Shh hold your head high boy, because this is the start of something new,"
A/N: Like it? Hate it? I'm not too sure about it myself. I figured I could do something with Emmett/Rosalie in a shorter version before I really attempted to do something bigger with them. The ending came a bit too fast but I can't really figure out a way to add in Emmett without it going…fast haha. Well, that's that.
