Shane and Mitchie sat in a canoe with the moon high above them and the lake covered with ripples from their attempted canoe ride. Both were just looking at each other smiling and reflecting on the best summer of their lives.

Mitchie asked Shane, with a hint of sadness in her voice, "Once you leave Camp Rock, you're going on tour for the rest of the summer, right?" "Yeah," Shane answered. "We'll be in a different city almost daily."

Mitchie bit her lip. Of course he would go back to being the Shane Grey, not the Shane who she'd met at camp. "What about you?" asked Shane. "What are you going to do with the rest of your summer?" "Well," she answered, "I have about a month until school starts again. Until then I guess I'm just going to be at home with my friend."

"Just one?" Shane asked. "I can't imagine that you only have one friend." "Yeah I do. Her name is Sierra and we've been best friends since forever."

"Then there's no one at home? No guy you're heading back to?" Shane asked, wringing his hands a little nervously. "No, of course not," answered Mitchie. Shane laughed nervously.

He took a breath, as if to give himself courage, and reached out to take Mitchie's hands. She looked up at him surprised. "Look, Mitchie. This summer has been the best one in my life and that's all because of one person. You. You didn't just see Shane Grey, the jerky popstar, you saw me underneath the image. I can understand if you don't feel the same way. I mean I basically just met you. But if you do feel the same way, will you be my girlfriend?"

Mitchie looked into his eyes surprised and saw a feeling there that she'd never seen before. It was answered by the same feeling in her heart. A feeling that had come as a stranger, made itself a guest, and had finally become at home during all the time she had spent with Shane.

She smiled and, impulsively, she leaned forward and pressed her lips to his. She backed off quickly, afraid of having made a mistake. Shane said roughly, "I guess that means yes." He moved closer and kissed her again.

In doing so, he had upset the balance of the canoe which promptly tipped over. They resurfaced spluttering, laughing, and blissful that they'd finally found the perfect person.
