Kirara could feel the joy amongst her people through the water that rippled onto her legs. She sang with the masses as they collected rice. Peace had been brought to the village thanks to the brave Samurai her village had hired. There song was bittersweet for the ones who had passed away were still fresh in their minds. Kikuchiyo's death had hit little Komachi pretty hard; but, she still stood next to her older sister singing the melody softly.

Once Kirara had finished collecting her share of the rice, her eyes automatically searched inconspicuously for the man of her affection; but, he was no where to be found. She was nervous; it had been awkward after their return. Her confession of love had been coldly halted by Kambei.

Flashback

Kirara's heart began to beat at a quickened pace as she decided it was time to confess her love of Kambei. She clutched the glowing crystal filled with water that began to glow blindingly around her neck.

"Mr. Kambei….. I…" she began to speak but stopped.

"Do not speak any further, girl. My heart is as dried up as a wilted flower. There is no use of your water for me. Leave now" he spoke without emotion and walked away leaving Kirara behind.

Remembering this made Kirara's eyes water. She went to grasp for her crystal but she did not have it. It belonged to her younger sister now. Kirara was no longer a water maiden. The waters that seeped through were no longer clear for her. Her soul had been tainted from witnessing the bloodshed, tears, and heartbreak of war.

She continued to search for the last remaining samurais; but, they were no where to be found. She had come across her grandfather while she searched the village.

"Grandfather, Have you seen the samurai?" she asked.

"They have gone my dear. They left earlier this morning."

Her eyes widened and she closed them immediately before she felt the hot stream of tears fall down her cheeks. She turned around just in time so that her grandfather did not see her weep.

"Thank you grandfather" she said as she tried to hide the ache in her voice.

She quickened her pace so that she was far from the village. She was finally far enough into the woods where she could let her heartache out. She fell to the ground and let the pain in her soul pour out.

'He had not even stopped by to say goodbye. I will never see him again' was all she could think about inbetween tears.

The sky had turned dark by the time she had stopped crying. She felt like she had been drained of all her energy. She could not feel anything any longer. There was only a vacant expression on the girls face.

"I should be rejoicing" she whispered to herself. She could not help but feel selfish about crying for herself. 'He probably is not evening thinking about me' she thought 'I should be happy that the village is safe now….. But… but" She closed her eyes and forced her self to get up.

She wiped her face with her sleeve. "These are the last tears I cry for you, Kambei." She rejoined the village, who where ending their celebrations.

"Sister sister! Where were you? I was looking all over for you. Look Look!" Komachi said as she pointed to the sky. "Fireworks!"

Kirara smiled weakly and nodded at Komachi. She ruffled her soft short hair and sat down on a patch of grass. They looked up at the Fireworks together in silence.
