Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter, but I would love to give him a high five.

Chance Encounter

"Your shoe's untied."

I froze, one foot hovering over the first step on the staircase, and swiveled around to see who had been eyeing my sneakers. An older boy stood behind me, adjusting the strap on the bag he had slung across his shoulder. Dark hair and glasses…where had I seen him before? I set my foot back down on the ground and gaped up at him as I realized the identity of my safety conscious friend. I took a deep breath and tried to think of something intelligent to say.

"Huh?"

The famous Harry Potter smiled at me and I knew my face was getting redder by the second. As I considered flinging myself from the top of the astronomy tower, he said, "Your shoelace. Better tie it before you head to the next floor. This staircase loves to move around on Fridays."

I took another calming breath, finally getting myself under control, and said, "Thanks for the tip." I quickly knelt down and mimed tying my shoes, hoping he would leave before I found another way to embarrass myself.

I watched his feet go past me up the steps and was shocked when he said, "See you around!" I made myself look up and wave, but he was already halfway up the staircase, which had begun to shake. I hopped onto the first step as the staircase moved to face a new corridor and thought wryly, finally, something to write home about.
