Summary: Emily's older cousin goes off to be a soldier. He, is her hero.
Dedicated to my older cousin who is currently in training to fight a war. He is my hero. I love you cousin! (not going to say his name) But for him, he is important for me. Love you cousin! This I also dedicate to all military families out there and those serving the military.
Emily
I was attending my older cousins, Michael's send off party. He was my favorite older cousin. I spent most of my time with him when we had parties. It was 4:23. At 5, he would have to leave for who knows how long.
I stayed by his side the majority of the night. I didn't want him to leave, but….but he had to go on and do bigger things. I will always love him for who he was. One of the small traits he has is a good heart. He constantly worries about others, never about himself…
So this job...it's kind of perfect for him. Gee, I'm gonna miss him.
Well, it's now 4:55. We partied by the airport so we could get more time.
I gave him one final hug. He is my hero...always was...always will...
"Come back, alright?" I said to him.
"I promise Em." He returned my hug.
He then walked out the door…..
That was 2 years ago. I was in the Shiba house now. I had a picture of him on my bedside table.
I look at it everyday. He never leaves my thoughts. I think about him everyday. He was the greatest cousin I've ever had. The greatest friend besides Serena.
I quickly looked at his pictured, and headed to the common room. That's when the doorbell went off.
No one got up to answer.
"I'll get it...I guess…" I said with a sigh.
I went to the door and answered it.
My cousin's face was staring back at me. He had a smile on my face. I felt tears swell up in my eyes.
I started to cry.
He enveloped me in a hug.
'Hi Emmy." He said. I smiled bigger, still crying.
"I missed you Mikey." I said.
"I miss you Emmy. Did I fulfill my promise enough?" He asked.
I nodded. I was trying to control my tears even more.
"I missed you so much." We said in sync.
I hugged him back tighter, as if trying to convince myself this….this is real.
So this was a short little story I decided to write dedicated to my older cousin. He went to join the army. He is very important for me. I look up to him (not just because he is taller) but because I respect him. He is a great man I have in my life, and I am thankful for him and his bravery. He is my hero.
