A/N: Could be seen as a prequel to "Tattoo," although I recommend reading that one first.

"No, no, no," Dean whispered repetitively while cradling the angel's body in his arms, "You'll be fine. C'mon now, buddy, stay with me."

"Dean." That was all he said while his eyes started to glaze over as he stared up at nothing.

"Dammit, Cas, stay with me," Dean growled, shaking his limp body roughly. The angel blinked once and focused his attention on the hunter's desperate eyes with difficulty.

"Hello, Dean," he said thickly again and swallowed painfully.

"Hi, Cas," the hunter choked out and shuddered slightly. He felt the angel lifting a heavy hand to his cheek, so he took upon his free hand to rest over it. There was wetness there, ever so slightly, but that must have been a mistake because Dean Winchester never cries. The angel's hand slipped out under Dean's and fell to his bloody chest. The hunter held him tightly with both arms once more.

"I...never...got the chance...to tell you...how...I," Cas said hoarsely as he struggled to talk.

"Shhh, that's okay," Dean breathed out shakily, "I know."

"Good," Cas mumbled and appeared to be falling asleep again. Fear spiking his veins, Dean shook the angel just as before.

"Dean, you have to let me go," he said, barely audible with his eyes closed.

"I can't, Cas, I just can't," the hunter's voice cracked and his face twisted in pain and sadness.

"Well, then...do me...something...will you?"

"Anything,"

"Take my last breath."

And with that, Dean leaned over and gently kissed the angel, feeling a slight response and small gust of breath flowing in his mouth. Then, there was nothing. He rested his forehead onto Cas's and finally broke down, trembling and crying silently. His chest was heaving and he had lost the ability to do anything, but hold on and never let go. On his right arm bore the markings of the angel's wings, forever imprinted.

The room was destroyed and all, but one was left.
