A/N: Happy birthday, dear Sasuke. Although I don't like you as much as I did a couple years ago, you still hold third on my Naruto bias list :]
Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto!
Young Sasuke's eyes opened, seeing a blurry mess. He rubbed his eyes, hopes that things will clear up. Sasuke sat up, blinking and looking around, finding himself in his room and in a futon. His eyes widened, remembering what the date was. He stood and headed for the door, but stopped when he heard whispers.
"Sasuke is still sleeping, so we should use this time to finish decorating," Sasuke heard his mom say.
"Right, we need this time to finish the cake, also!" His brother's voice hand excitement and eagerness laced into it.
"Fugaku, dear, please set the table," his mother said. "Shisui, hurry up and pin the streamers down, already! You're taking a long time."
"Sorry, Aunt Mikoto. You realize I'm bad at this stuff, right?" Sasuke could see his cousin flash a smile at his mother.
"If you have time to smile, hurry up and finish decorating!"
Sasuke heard a loud crash come from downstairs.
"I do hope Sasuke didn't wake up from that," he heard his cousin say.
"I'll go check if he's still asleep, then," Itachi said.
The young Uchiha heard the sound of Itachi's steps, slowly coming up the steps. He rushed to the futon as quietly as a kid could rush, and fumbled with the blanket as he threw it over himself. Right before the wooden door slid open, Sasuke faced his back to it, and tried to keep a steady rhythm as he breathed.
Itachi must have assumed he was asleep, because his brother slid the door closed and rushed back to the kitchen.
"He's still asleep, but we need to make sure Shisui doesn't do something like that again. Sasuke might really wake up the next time."
Sasuke laid on his side for a while, resting his eyes or just staring at the wood wall in front of him.
He suddenly heard the door slide open once more and steps toward him.
"Hey, Sasuke. Wake up," Itachi said as he lightly shook the younger Uchiha's shoulder.
"I'm up, I'm up," Sasuke mumbled, as he feigned sleepiness.
"Let's go downstairs. Mom, Dad, Shisui, and I planned something for you."
"For me?" Sasuke innocently asked as he looked up at his brother.
"Yeah."
"Cousin Sushi, too?"
"It's Shisui, little brother. And yes, Even cousin Shisui."
Itachi led Sasuke downstairs, the latter bracing himself for anything.
Sasuke assumed he didn't brace himself much because he flinched when everyone jumped out and yelled 'Surprise!' right before Sasuke's foot touched the bottom step.
His eyes scanned the kitchen. There was a red and white cake on the table, streamers messily pinned onto the walls, and numerous presents in the corner.
"A lot of the family wanted me to bring presents from them for you, Sasuke," Shisui explained as he ruffled up the younger Uchiha's hair.
"Let's head for the table for some cake!" Sasuke cheered.
"We have to sing Happy Birthday for you first, Sasuke, dear," his mother said.
Fugaku lit the candles as everyone took their seats.
"Happy Birthday to you~" everyone sang. Sasuke's eyes lit up as he felt the excitement tingle in his gut.
"Happy Birthday, dear Sasuke, Happy Birthday to you~"
Sasuke blew out the candles as he made a wish.
I wish I can do this every year for the rest of my life.
