It begins with his hands covering hers, caressing them softly as they watch his brother play. The day is bright and filled with children's laughter, and he can smell the flowers on her hair.

It grows from there. She pulls him in.

He comes to understand belonging to someone when she rests peacefully in his arms. He reaches for her when she's angry, and holds her when sadness beats her down.

His hands search her skin like the tide follows the moon. And all he wants to do is love her.

But he can't (and his crown is never heavier).
