"Anything off the cart, dears?" asked an elderly woman, sliding back the door to the compartment that currently contained James Potter and Sirius Black. They were having a heated conversation, it looked like, but as soon as she peeked her head in, James jumped up and pulled out a little bag of coins from his pocket.

"I'll take all the Chocolate Frogs you got," he said quickly, tossing over the bag- it was full of galleons! With widened eyes the lady pulled four boxes full of Chocolate Frogs to the boy, a bit uncertain.

As soon as she closed the door, Sirius snatched a Frog out of one of the boxes, saying as he opened it, "You need to get over this obsession, Jamesy. I know they taste really good...and smell really sweet and chocolaty...but...forget it." He was too enraptured with the Frog held tightly in his hands.

"You were saying?" asked James, chocolate smeared across his face, mouth full, a half dozen wrappers littered on the floor already.

"Nothing," assured his new best friend quickly, gobbling up his and reaching for another.

The door opened again and a poor-looking boy and a red-haired girl entered, sitting across from them. James and Sirius ignored them, continuing to eat the Chocolate Frogs, paying the two newcomers no mind, until they heard the boy say, "You'd better be in Slytherin," to the girl.

James immediately sat up from his slouch, and raised his eyebrows at Sirius, who grinned in return.

"Slytherin?" he repeated, nearly gasping in mock surprise. "Who wants to be in Slytherin? I think I'd leave, wouldn't you?" he asked Sirius.

He frowned, "My whole family have been in Slytherin," he muttered irritably. He didn't want to go the same way as them.

"Blimey!" cried James, "and I thought you seemed all right!"

"Maybe I'll break the tradition. Where are you heading, if you've got the choice?" asked Sirius curiously.

James grinned, pretending to lift up an imaginary sword, hefting it in his hands and swinging it towards the Slytherin-wannabe boy.

"Gryffindor, where dwell the brave at heart! Like my dad." The boy snorted quietly, rolling his eyes. James turned to him, frowning. "You got a problem with that?"

"No," he sneered back, "If you'd rather be brawny than brainy-"

Sirius leaned in, interrupting, "Where're you hoping to go, seeing as you're neither?" James roared with laughter, watching the girl with interest as she got up, her face flushed with anger. She turned to glare at them, then talked to her poor-looking friend.

"Come on, Severus, let's find another compartment," she said in a lofty voice, ignoring James and Sirius as they raised their eyebrows suggestively at her.

"Oooooooh," they mocked her as she left. "See ya, Snivellus!" they called.

James was still staring at the girl, and Sirius lightly hit him in the stomach. "James? James, buddy? Here, have a Chocolate Frog," he offered, shoving the candy into his friend's hands, being ignored.

"What's her name?" James asked, his eyes completely glazed over, staring off into space.

"Evans, Lily Evans," replied Sirius. "Are you...You like her!" Sirius grinned, laughing so hard that he was beating his fists on the leather seat.

"You want the Chocolate Frogs? I'm not hungry." James had realized something. He wasn't really obsessed with candy anymore, it was a bit meaningless. "I think I'll ask her out."

He had just gotten a new obsession, and its name, or rather, her name was Lily Evans.
