One Last Race
I watch as Sasuke comes around the last corner of his 3.1 mile run. It's state Cross Country and he's tied with Shushin Kamison; the defending champion. They're both Seniors, and have had a deep running rivalry since freshman year.
I'm standing about ten meters behind the finish line, cheering as loud as my lungs will allow. My chest was already aching from taking first for Varsity girls, but what kind of girlfriend would I be if I didn't cheer for him?
Shushin is slowly pulling ahead, and I can already see the smugness in his eyes. I start jumping and screaming, not even bothering to form words anymore. Naruto's doing the same next to me.
I see refreshed determination flash in Sasuke's eyes, and he seems to have all of his energy back. I had no idea he could sprint this fast. It shouldn't be humanly possible.
He crosses the finish line, and my screaming turns into laughter. Sasuke doesn't slow down, and keeps running until he reaches me. He picks me up and twirls me around while I wrap my arms around him. "You did it Sasuke! You w-"
"Sakura."
He sets me down and looks into my eyes. He kneels down on one knee and grabs my left hand. I almost faint right on the spot. "Will you marry me?"
I kneel down in front of him and hug him again. "Yes." I whisper.
"Hey Teme! I call best man!"
"Dobe."
