He had been running out of a store, a twinkle in his eye and gold in his hand, when he rushed into an alleyway and ran straight into two large, menacing men attempting to overpower a girl around the same age as him. "Sorry," he said with a nervous laugh as he backed away from them. But one of the burly men spotted the shiny jewelry just as the boy shielded them behind his back.
"Hey, kid, whatcha got there?"
His first urge was to airbend his way out. But he glanced at the girl, who, despite her predicament, seemed to have a determined look in her eyes. He cocked an eyebrow towards her resulting in a blush that spread through both of them. Who was this girl? The mischievous glint in his eye grew more pronounced but the thugs were not paying attention to the boy. Their eyes were set on the prize he was holding and the men glanced at each other before cracking their knuckles threateningly and advancing on the thief. The boy feigned innocence. "Hey, fellas, you don't want to hurt me here. I didn't do anything to hurt you. I was just minding my own business…" he trailed off as they cornered him against the wall. He wasn't worried-he had faced far worse than these two. Oddly enough, the girl was watching him with amusement on her face. If she was incapable of saving herself earlier, then now would have been the perfect opportunity to run away, as the thugs were completely focused on the messy haired boy now. He realized that she was taunting him. She could have overpowered them on her own, but his arrival marked the event as a challenge. Naturally, he took this as a chance to show off his charm and humor.
"Wait!" he exclaimed as the the men took a swipe at the jewelry. The men paused for a second. "I think," he panted, "I'm allergic," he breathed in deeply, "to your", he sniffed his nose, "stupidity." He winked at the girl before letting out a giant sneeze. "AHHH CHOOOO!" He said, the air tunneling straight out from under him, launching him several feet into the air and knocking down the two men behind them. The girl giggled as he landed back down. "Hi, I'm Kai," he smiled at her for an instant before suddenly feeling very self-conscious, scratching his head and ducking his head down. "Hi, I'm Jinora," she replied.
