CHILD'S PLAY

The silk scarves were all stylish and beautifully printed, making it hard for a woman to choose just one to suit herself. Ada, who's meticulous in everything she wears, is not an exemption. She was standing and surveying the scarf booth keenly, taking her sweet time, when she noticed something.

"Leon." She called out, not taking her eyes off the scarves.

But Leon was too busy taking snapshots of the whole place, not caring if it's just an old cart, or a bunch of Arabic mats on sale, as long as he can take as many mementoes as he can on this trip.

"LEON." She called again, this time more loud and urgent.

"Yes, sweetheart?"

Her eyes went to him. "Where is she?"

He looked around first and then his eyes narrowed. "I thought she was with you."

"No, she was with you."

"Geezus."

They entered the mini-carnival and roamed their eyes. Ada asked around, but all she got were shaking of heads and shrugs. Both of them were turning frantic by the minute, until something caught Leon's eyes. "Look," her eyes snapped irritably on him, "there she is."

A four-year-old girl was standing in front of a shooting booth, holding the toy gun in her tiny hands. She has a toothy smile, and her blue eyes are twinkling with amusement. They both sighed in relief as they rush to their daughter.

"Andie," Ada phrased patiently, kneeling in front of the child, "what did Mommy tell you about guns? That they're very—"

Little Andie pulled the trigger and a plastic stick with a tiny suction cup on its end went flying through the air. It landed perfectly between the eyes of a hanging doll nearby.

Leon whistled and took pictures of it in every angle. "Nice shot, baby."
