First
A short oneshot based on a what if.
Set during season 4, "Lancelot du Lac"
I don't own anything but my ideas.
Morgana was about to take a step into the black water when she hesitated. Ever since she had told Agravaine that she knew who Gwen's first love was she had gotten a funny prickly feeling at the base of her scalp. There was some thought that just wouldn't coalesce, wouldn't reveal itself, and it was driving her mad. She rubbed the large coin in her fingers absentmindedly as she tried, one last time, to see what she was forgetting.
Lancelot was Gwen's first love. He had to be. Wasn't he? Morgana thought back to the years past when everything seemed so much simpler but she knew that Gwen never had an official beau. Everyone loved Gwen but she never had anything serious before Lancelot and Arthur. Morgana remembered when she used to be happy for Gwen but now there was nothing left but jealousy. That was why she was using the most painful plan she could think of against her former friend. A strike to the heart. So why was there something wrong with Lancelot? Who could possibly cause more pain than a dead lover returning from death.
She focused. Gwen's first love. First love. First. First. There was someone before Lancelot... What happened before he showed up? Gwen had been accused of witchcraft, the first time, by then, hadn't she? He father hadn't died yet. Merlin had showed up.
MERLIN!
She gasped as the memories came flooding back. Arthur's stupid manservant obviously loved Gwen. She remembered how he had confessed to sorcery of all things when the mess when Gwen was blamed for her father recovering from the plague. She remembered confronting him about it after the beast in the wells was defeated. She remembered Arthur rolling his eyes and constantly teasing him about it. Even more than that, she remembered how Gwen so obviously liked him as well. Back then she had thought that the two would make the cutest couple if only they could stop being so shy.
A smirk snaked upon her lips as she considered a new plan. How would Arthur react to his faithful manservant stealing his faithful fiancée. The two people in Camelot who were most devoted to Arthur. His most trusted friends, regardless of class. How fun it would be too see Merlin and Gwen break her brother in a way she doubted that he'd ever recover from.
Anyways, a simple love-spell was so much less complicated that bringing back a shade and then making sure that Gwen would betray Arthur. Then she could save the coin for later, instead of for a useless pettyness that wasn't necessary to her current goal of taking over Camelot. For she would be the first to admit that her vengeance was pure pettiness but Morgana would also add that it was more rewarding that way.
For the first time, she was actually happy that Gwen was going to marry Arthur in a few days.
A\N: I hope you liked this. I've had this on my computer and decided to post it. The idea has intrigued me ever sense I thought of it. It bugged me how Morgana said that Lancelot was Gwen's first love when he wasn't. She was crushing on Merlin quite a while before Lancelot. I know you could argue that it was just a crush, not love, but Morgana was using magic anyway. It is interesting to wonder what Arthur would have done if both Gwen and Merlin would have 'betrayed' him. The poor guy might have gone like Uther. But I don't know, this is a short oneshot that I won't be continuing- I just don't have the time. If anyone else wants it though, you can have it. It's a nice what if.
