The Shadows of his Mind

Chapter 1: The Incident

Point of view: Edward Elric: The Fullmetal Alchemist

Uggh, today has been so long, is it ever going to end? From the look on Colonel's face, I'm gonna be working for a while. Uggh.

"Hey Fullmetal! Wipe that pitiful look off of your face and get back to work!" The Colonel said.

"Maybe, you should get off your ass for once, and go do what I do every day! See how you feel after that!" I stated indignantly.

"Last time I checked Fullmetal, you were the one who signed on for this, remember?" The Colonel stated with a smug look on his face.

"Bite me!" I screamed.

Not taking another second of his smug remarks, I stormed out the door, and into the hallway. Hmm, no one here, I wonder where Al is. I thought to myself. I continued to search for my younger brother in the dark shadow filled corridor. Where could he be!? I thought to myself, my agitation slowly starting to increase. I continued to storm down the silent corridor, through the shadows. Still, no one, no Al, not anybody.

Meanwhile, the Colonel sat in his chair, thinking about what he said to his young vivacious subordinate.

"I bet he's royally pissed, he's going to do something reckless, I know it." The Colonel stood from his chair to find the boy.

"Aww, come on Al, where'd you wander off to this time?" I sighed.

Uggh. As I took my seat in the hallway, my back slowly slid down the wall.

"Where are you?" I asked myself out loud.

I laid my face in my white-gloved hands, my golden braid fell limply over my right shoulder. Utter silence. I sat deep in my thoughts as I usually did, hoping that Al was alright. I returned to my feet, a pained look on my face, as I took to the entrance of Central Command. The smiling secretary glanced at me, her brunette hair a light chestnut, her eyes matching her hair.

"Have a nice night, Mr. Elric!" She stated with honey toned happiness.

"Yup, thanks." I answered back.

I ran out the front door, one thing plagued my thoughts, find Al. Or, at least, someone besides the annoying Colonel. However, I suddenly remembering that I hadn't really paid attention to the time.

Point of view: Roy Mustang (The Colonel): The Flame Alchemist

"Where'd he go? Where is he? I don't see him anywhere!" It's 2:30am! It's not safe for him to be running around, alone." I whispered anxiously to myself.

I strode as fast as I could through the corridor. Sweat trickled down my furrowed brow. My jet black hair was soaked in the liquid. My onyx eyes wide with determination. I looked in every room, every nook, and cranny. To no avail. I rushed toward the entrance of the command center. Slamming my hands on the secretary's desk, my face held a look of utter rage.

"Where is he!?" I demanded urgently.

The secretary looked confused, "Who?" She asked dumbfounded.

"Edward!" I yelled with annoyance.

"Umm, Mr. Elric just left, a few moments ago." She cried with new found fear.

"Where did he go!?" I demanded in the same tone.

"Umm, he didn't say!" She whimpered fearfully.

"Dammit!" I stormed out the door as fast as I could.

Point of view: Edward Elric

"Al, Al! Are you there, Al?! Dammit! Where are you!?" I screamed with annoyance.

I continued to walk down the street, silence. No Al, no one, alone. I got a sudden chill and began to frantically run. Fear crept into my heart and I had a bad gut feeling.

"Al! Al!" I screamed desperately, just wanting someone to appear that would relieve my fear stricken heart.

It was raining and the night air was crisp. It's freezing. The more I run, the more afraid I become. I run so fast that a small puddle makes me slip. I fall flat on my face, soaked.

"Eww, mud, dammit Al! When I find you, I'm gonna kick your ass!" I yelled with rage.

I slowly lift myself from the soaked ground, mud is in my golden hair and on my face, and my clothes are covered in it.

"Aww, my new shoes! That's it Al! I really am kicking your ass when I find you!" I threaten again, hoping that maybe Al is in range, and understands just how urgently I want to find him.

I begin to wipe the mud from my lips, yuck. I continue my quiet stride as the rain continues to fall. RUSTLE RUSTLE RUSTLE

"What was that!?" I cry as I frantically search my surroundings.

But there's no one.

"Oh well, I guess it was just the wind." I say reassuringly to myself.

I walk a bit further staying aware of my surroundings for the remainder of my search.

Point of view: Colonel Mustang

"Fullmetal! Fullme... I mean Edward! Edward, where are you!?" I yell desperately, correcting myself.

I recall my promise to Fullmetal. I had to learn to call him "Ed" or "Edward", not "Fullmetal." Removed from my thoughts I hear a cry.

"Colonel! Colonel! Is that you colonel?" The voice asked in a frightened tone.

"Edward! Where are you!?" I ask with relief, but also a bit of concern.

"In the alley! Come here, please!" The voice desperately cried.

"Edward! What's wrong!?" I asked as I neared the alleyway.

A dark figure sat and loomed there in the alley.

"Edward! There you are! Are you hurt?" I cried with relief and concern.

The figure sat there silently.

"Fullmetal?" I asked with a bit of worry.

The figure stood and walked quietly towards me.

"Come closer, Colonel. I can't see you." The voice begged.

"I'm coming, Fullmetal." I confirmed.

Then, I felt a strong grip on my shoulder. I can't breathe suddenly. That isn't Ed, he's much too strong. No, he might be after Fullmetal! I thought with fear.

The final air escaped my lungs and I fell limp.

Point of view: Edward Elric

"What was that noise?! Was that someone in the alley? Maybe it was the Colonel or even Al! I have to investigate! It might've been Al!" I yelled to myself with reassurance.

I followed the direction of the sound. A dark alleyway lay in front of me, where the sound had come from. I can't go in there at this time of night, I'm not that dumb! That's got to be the oldest trick in the book. I've seen the movies, that's the number one place for a murderer or a robber to hide! Haha! I'm not that stupid! The last thing I want is to be killed or some guy trying to still my wallet. I walk away from the alley, turning my back. I continue to walk forward, paying no attention to my surroundings, unlike before.

Cackle Cackle

"What was that!? That definitely wasn't the wind!" I cry as I scan the area.

Fear begins to enter my mind. I thought I was alone. That was undeniably a crazy laugh. Is someone following me? I think to myself. Great now I'm getting paranoid. Edward, you idiot! There's nothing there. You're perfectly fine. I reassure myself, scolding my idiocy. I alert myself and continue to scan the area, no one.

Cackle Cackle

That was not just me being paranoid! I thought with fear.

"Dammit! Where are you...you bastard! Show yourself!" I scream with fear and rage.

I continue to swiftly walk forward, looking around frantically, I'm terrified. All civilization has faded away as I walk further, towards my hotel room. I walk for about thirty minutes, then I feel a presence near. A creepy and familiar presence. I turn around, no one there. I continue to walk swifter than before. I feel a warm breath on my neck. Suddenly, realization of the presence occurs within me. My golden eyes are filled with fear. My cheeks are wind burnt, my hair is a bit out-of-place, but still remains in my tight braid. Then, something tells me to turn around. Some man in black grabs me. I frantically fight to break free, to no avail. I'm suddenly panicking, I'm actually afraid. The man has a strong grip, I scream for help, the cool wind causing tears to pour from my eyes.

"Let me go! Help! Help!" I scream desperately.

The man looks at me with no mercy or emotion, he looks annoyed in fact.

"Shut up, boy. Your hopeless screams are rather annoying, and bothersome." The man orders.

With those words, a gloved hand clamps over my mouth. Then, I panic. Trying to break free, I bite him. With no remorse, he whacks me in the head with some blunt object. It really hurts. I collapse to the ground, groaning in pain, moaning for help. The man jerks me up by my braid forcefully, it hurts. He pulls something from his pocket. What is that!? A handkerchief? A roll of duct tape? Rope? What the hell is he doing!? I think to myself. He drops me on the ground so he can detach a piece of duct tape from the roll.

"Now's my chance! I can run!" I scream to myself.

I get up quickly, and start running frantically. I'm crying! I'm screaming!

"Help! Somebody help me! There's a man trying to abduct me!" I cry, terrified.

Apparently, no one cares, or can't hear a fifteen year old's frantic cries. Even though I'm a bit away from the heart of the city, anyone could hear me scream! I think to myself. Before I know it, the man tackles me. I kick and scream, but he simply uses his knee to restrain my movement. He pulls the roll of silver tape from his trench coat pocket, then rips a piece off. Just enough to restrict my gaping mouth from blaring anymore. He holds my opened mouth closed to put the tape on. I continue to kick and attempt to scream. I desperately try to find a way to get the tape off of my mouth. Dammit! Here I am, lying on the ground, a silver piece of tape restricting my screams. The man stares down at me triumphantly.

"Haha, I finally shut you up, boy! Mwuhahaha!" He laughs maniacally.

Muffled screams erupt from my taped mouth. No luck. Tears stream down my cheeks as he binds my hands and feet. Then comes the handkerchief, my blindfold. He tightly ties it around my fearful eyes. The last restriction he needed. Alchemy wasn't an option from the start. It was all too sudden. I'm helpless, scared, I can't save myself, can't even scream. All at once, I feel two cold fingers pinch my nose shut. I can't breathe...can't breathe...can't...breathe. I think as my world fades into darkness with unconsciousness.
