Author Note: My last Supernatural thread was wholly unsuccessful. I am hoping that this one will gather more support. My goal is to post vignettes featuring some of the minutiae of being on the road with the Winchester brothers. It could cross many different genres, but I hope to keep it fun and interesting. Reviews are welcome as they let me know I'm doing something right. Thank you and Enjoy!
On the Road With Sam and Dean
Detail
When Sam opened the passenger door of the Impala, he wrinkled his nose at the silver, triangle shaped object which fell to ground next to his foot.
"Time to clean the car, Dean," Sam said, insistently. "The label on this burger wrapper was from five days ago."
"No time," Dean answered, curtly, hopping into the driver's seat and starting the car. "We're due at Bobby's in twenty-four hours. Every minute counts."
"Sanitation counts, too," Sam said, bending to eyeball Dean through the window. "Bobby can wait the five minutes it will take to make this car livable again."
"What's not livable? As long as the garage is under foot, we can make it to Bobby's in time. In fact, this conversation is over. Let's go!
Sam stood up and remained still for a few moments before turning toward the gas station market.
"Sammy, I'll leave you!" Dean called to his back. "This is literally BFE! Don't make me do it!"
Sam kept walking, waving a dismissive hand toward the car.
"Dammit!" Dean swore, setting his 40oz Mountain Dew on seat. Turning to get out of the car his elbow hit the cup, knocking it over. Luckily, he had put a lid on it and a potential epic spill was limited to a small trickle. Grabbing a bunched up napkin on passenger side floor, he dabbed at his Baby's seat to make sure the spill was completely cleaned up. When he tossed the damp paper back to floor, congealed ketchup stuck to his fingers.
"Gross!" Dean exclaimed, exiting the car to go wash his hands.
As he pulled the open the market door, Sam was coming out holding a plastic grocery bag. He noticed that his brother was practically growling in bitter disgust.
"What happened?" Sam asked, trying not to laugh at his brother's anger. The response he got was a brief, unintelligible grunt. The taller man shrugged and proceeded to the car where he filled the bag with garbage from the front and back of the car. A more detailed cleaning he'd leave to his brother who preferred that kind of pampering for his beloved Impala.
When he had finished and deposited grocery bag in the garbage, Dean emerged from the store looking only slightly less pissed.
"Everything ok?" Sam asked.
"Jim Dandy, Sam," Dean replied, curtly. "Get in the car. Bobby's waiting.
When the two got in the car, Dean raised eyebrows in approval at the cleanliness of the floorboards.
"Nice," he said to Sam who stared out the window in the opposite direction.
Turning to his brother, Sam replied. "Yup."
Reaching for the deodorizer Sam had hung on the rearview mirror, Dean ripped it off and threw it out the window. "Now, it's almost perfect!"
Sam pursed his lips in irritation and, again, stared out the window in silence.
