Writers Notes: This is a story that is based upon the children's fairy tale The Tin Soldier. I hope it hasn't been done before, but if it has, I'm sorry. I find math class supplies very good ideas. (And so does chem lab, come to think of it...)

I know that many of these kinds of stories have been done, but PLEASE give me a chance? puppy dog eyes Thank you!

Disclaimer: I don't own BtVS series, but ya can't stop hoping, huh? And I don't own The Tin Soldier either.

Her Vampire, Her Spike

They drove away from that dreadful crater that was once named Sunnydale. It was to awful to stay and look at. Too many memories of ones loved, lost, and even some forgotten lived there. It was a town that stank of death, but almost none of the people realized it. But now all that remained was a crater and dust.

'And some of that dust is him.' Buffy couldn't help but think. She wanted to close her eyes and open them to find that it was just a bad nightmare. Her mom was still alive. And so was Anya and... and... she couldn't even bare to think of him right now. He was dead like she had wished she was so many times. Deader than dead.

But now that she had started, she couldn't stop thinking of him. She had loved him. She had told him so, for pete's sake!!! And he hadn't believed her. How dare he. The time that she needed him to believe her and he hadn't.

It was these thoughts that made her decide to go back. The buses had stopped about 30 miles away from the town once nick-named "Sunnyhell". She would go back there. See if she could find his dust, even if she knew it had blown away. If nothing else, bring back the sign that had survived it all. She almost felt like laughing. They had died, but the sign had lived.

So after everyone else had fallen asleep or became preoccupied, she ran. She figured slayer speed and all she could make it there and back before mourning. She knew she could. It was just a jog to her. And so one hour later, she found herself back at the source of all the grief she had gone through for what seemed an eternity.

She strode to the middle of the crater where she knew it had happened. She knew what she hoped to find, but didn't know what was there in reality. What she saw made her cry.

A pile of dust. But it was a pile of dust in the shape of a heart. He had known and loved her! But she wanted him to love her while he was alive, not a pile of ashes on the ground.
She LOVED him. She cried for him. And he would always be hers.

Her vampire. Her Spike.
