They sat side by side in the stillness, garish neon lights illuminating their features. Breathing sounded harsh to the ears but was ignored as each took temporary sanctuary in the others' presence. Times like these were treasured.
Passer-bys called to each other, voices ringing out into the night, taking no heed of the two. Chill night breezes ruffled their hair as they leaned closer to one another, keeping warm a ready excuse if needed. Usually turned-down mouths fought to lift and finger twitched as if they were magnetized.
Rukia's phone sounded and they jumped to their feet.
Time for work.

AN: Hope that was satisfactory (minus the length) Sadly it was intended as a drabble, i.e. 100 words, but I'll soon start working on another, longer piece later. This was written and uploaded for my birthday which is Thursday Nov. 18! WAI! I had promised myself I would get out something for my fandoms, even though they are all short.
