A/N: I should be working on World is Mine...
Disclaimer: I don't want to own the anime/manga that made me cry with the predictable ending.
Tragedy
The thought came to the Colonel as he watched his blond subordinate read on his couch at the office.
"Fullmetal," when the blond looked up from the book, the onyx haired man continued, "some people might think that what happened to you was a tragedy, but is it really?" When all he received was a raised eyebrow the man continued, "You see in Aristotle's opinion, there are three phases to tragedy and those are reversal, recognition, and pathos or extreme suffering."
"Your point is?" Asked the blond in a jade manner, even though he was turning slightly to get a better look at the man and putting the book down so it rested on his lap, open.
"Well, the reversal or when the person's life goes upside down, happened in your case when your mother died," the blond's fingers tightened just slightly around the spine of the book, "and that was when you performed the human transmutation. The recognition or when a person goes from ignorance to knowledge, most likely occurred to you when you had no choice but to put your brother in a suit of armor and when you saw that...thing you created. And in many people's opinion, the faster the recognition the better the tragedy is, which happened in your case. "
"And this pathos when did it happen?" Asked the blond as he closed the book and set it aside. He then got up and strolled to the man's desk to lean his hip on the edge, awaiting the answer.
"Pathos is extreme suffering which can include death and your pathos is still happening. You suffer with the guilt that what happened to your brother is your fault and you must suffer life with no feeling in that automail arm and leg of yours. So tell me Fullmetal, is your life story a tragedy?"
The blond turned fully to the man and gave him a thoughtful look before he shook his head. "No, the real tragedy happened to Al..." His fists tightened at his side as he looked down.
"Then what happened to you?" Asked the man in true honesty.
The blond unclenched his hands and placed them on the desk, he leaned forward to give the man a chaste kiss, before he turned and headed for the door. Yet, when he turned the door knob and opened it slightly, he turned around and gave the man a smile. "I call it good luck."
Roy leaned back in his chair as he touched his lips with his gloved fingers, "Good luck, huh?" He could hear laughter from outside his door, but he wondered how long was this 'good luck' going to last.
Not to long after that, the blond gave his life to bring his brother's body back and later that night another tragedy occurred, one, which would send many who wanted a better future into mourn. Yet, this time it was not the tragedy that made that man commit suicide it was...good fortune.
