WAR PAINT

Disclaimer: all of Tamora Pierce's characters and stuff are hers, and the lyrics belong to Lorrie Morgan

This happens like the fight in the desert didn't happen, but the Jon did propose to Alanna, but instead of Jon saying she couldn't have more time as he left, he said she could have all the time she needed. Alanna is still going to reject him though.

Alanna sat in her rooms at the palace for the first time in months. Jon was supposed to come pick her up for the ball soon. She sat down in front of her mirror and looked at herself. She wasn't a hag, but she wasn't beautiful, then a thought hit her. She took out 4 different colors of make- up. Each standing for something. She had red, blue, yellow, and black. She was putting on a stripe of red paint on one of her cheeks when there was a knock on the door. "Come in Jon." She called. He entered her rooms and walked over to her.

You come in while I'm sitting at the mirror You wanna say you know that I look nice

Alanna turned back to the mirror and finished the red stripe.

I sit in desperate silence and I listen And with a cutting eye, you know you'd better look twice

'Cos I'm putting on my war paint I'm on the path again And before you say it looks great You'd better look again Red is for the anger that you put me through And for all those nights I felt alone, you'll see a shade of blue

Alanna reached for the blue and put a stripe of it directly underneath the red.

I'll add a dash of yellow for the coward that you've been

That stripe went on the opposite cheek.

And the black will be your night ahead and my shadow in your bed

That one was under the yellow.

I'm putting on my war paint

There's nothing you can say to make it better And there's no apology to change my mind I guess I could have sent a "Dear Jon" letter

* No pun intended, that is how the song goes *

But it's written on my face, it's war paint time

'Cos I'm putting on my war paint I'm on the path again And before you say it looks great You'd better look again Red is for the anger that you put me through And for all those nights I felt alone, you'll see a shade of blue I'll add a dash of yellow for the coward that you've been And the black will be your night ahead and my shadow in your bed I'm putting on my war paint

'Cos I'm putting on my war paint I'm on the path again And before you say it looks great You'd better look again

I'm putting on my war paint I'm on the path again I'm putting on my war paint I'm on the path again I'm putting on my war paint Red is for the anger that you put me through And for all those nights I felt alone you see a shade of blue I'm putting on my war paint Red is for the anger that you put me through And for all those nights I felt alone you see a shade of blue

I apologize for writing songfics only right now. I'm working on a few more at the moment as well, but I'm also working on an actual story, along with running for Vice president in student council and homework, so please bear with me.

Please review.
