Flicker

There was still a chance.

A desperate, fleeting chance that he would be able to win the duel. He had endured a lot at the hands of Malik, and now, it was finally over. He was going to win.

He was standing tall, and as he took his last monster from his hand, and set it down on his duel disc. As the Iron Knight materialized on the field, he swayed a bit, losing his balance for one single, solitary moment, before balancing himself once more. He took pride in the terrified look on his opponent's face.

He was going to win. He was going to prove his worth as a duelist, and save the world.

But just as fast as he had gotten into control, he had lost it. Darkness was closing in on him, and all he could hear was laughter.

Cold, cruel laughter.

Laughing at the one flicker of hope he had had of winning.

And just like that, everything was gone.
