Too Hot To Handle
In response to a challenge: Filius Flitwick and Alastor Moody have no air conditioning (or other cooling device) in extremely hot weather in The Staff Room.
Professor Filius Flitwick, Charms teacher at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, peered over the other side of the Staff Room to a rather flustered looking Alastor Moody. Quite frankly he preferred the company of the werewolf, Remus Lupin, the year before but one could not choose their colleagues. His gaze caught his hands quickly and he noticed the sweat, dripping from his short, stubby fingers and down onto his trousers. With a slight mutter at the extent of the heat invading the Staff Room he made his way over to Alastor, stopping in front of him, almost unnoticed due to his height. Finally, after a little throat clearing, Alastor Moody glanced down at Flitwick with a curious glare,
'Yes Filius?'
'I was just wondering, Alastor, whether you also noticed the increase in temperature of the Staff Room?'
'Yes, I did Filius, I was about to comment on it myself. The house elves obviously are not doing their job correctly. You're the Charms expert here, can't you put a cooling charm on the room?' Flitwick sighed heavily,
'If only I could Alastor, but I'm afraid in such conditions it is impossible, cooling charms cannot be performed in excess of 40 degrees Celcius.' Moody merely shrugged, lapsing back into his chair and bringing a hand up to wipe the sweat from his forehead,
'Looks like we'll just have to suffer then…' Filius Flitwick was not one to suffer. He turned on his heel and headed toward the headmaster's office, eager to get the place cooler.
As the Charms Professor entered the headmaster's office he noticed the change immediately. The room was almost like an ice cube, heaven to those spending time in the Staff Room. He approached the desk where Dumbledore sat and cleared his throat, receiving the attention of the headmaster,
'Sorry to disturb you sir, but I wished to speak to you about the state of the Staff Room. It is dreadfully hot in there, I fear the house elves have neglected to tend to the cooling system.' Albus Dumbledore simply stared at Flitwick, shaking his head serenely,
'Sorry to inform you but the house elves in charge of the cooling systems have been directed to the kitchens today to help prepare dinner for our special guests tonight. You will just have to live with the heat for today.' Flitwick could only smile and nod to the headmaster as he turned to head back to the fiery temperatures of the Staff Room.
Upon stepping back into Staff Room, Filius Flitwick joined Alastor Moody in a state of unconsciousness on the floor. At that precise moment the Staff Room began to cool down, the house elves obviously having returned from their dinner preparations. Despite the drop in temperature, both Filius Flitwick and Alastor Moody remained passed out on the floor. So much for not suffering.
