Eponine stumbled into the nearest building.
A bar wonderful. She thought, after looking around. She slid into a seat at the counter. Next to her, a man asked: "Can I get another drink?" A moment later the bartender handed the man a drink. Eponine glanced at him. He looked perfectly normal, expect for a pristine white mask that clung to the right side of his face.
"What are you looking at?" The man snapped.
"Sorry," Eponine murmured.
"It's alright, I'm used to it…I'm Erik, by the way."
"Eponine…Why are you here, Erik?"
"Christine," Erik said, with a snort. "I'm such a fool. I should've known she would've gone for a fop like that over me."
"I know how that feels," Eponine sighed.
"Really?" Erik looked surprised. "But you're beautiful."
Eponine blushed. "I'm only his friend, he doesn't even know how I feel. Even if he did his eyes are for Cosette alone."
"It was his lose, Eponine."
"Thank you, Erik… and it was Christine's lose too."
Erik chuckled.
"Erik… if I don't have Marius and you don't have Christine, we have each other." Eponine stuck out her hand. "Friends?" Erik looked at her in disbelief for a moment before saying: "Friends." They both smiled.
"Well we haven't got much," Erik said after a moment. "But we've got each other."
"Yes… just two lost souls." Eponine said.
"Two lost souls on the highway of life," She started to sing. "We ain't even got a sister or brother
Ain't it just great, ain't it just grand?
We've got each other!"
Erik stared at her for a moment before joining in.
"Two lost ships on a stormy sea
One with no sails and one with no rudder
Ain't it just great, ain't it just grand?
We've got each udder!"
They both laughed and took a sip of their drinks before continuing.
"Two lost sheep, in the wilds of the hills
Far from the other Jacks and Jills, we wandered away and went astray
But we ain't fussin'
Cuz we've got "us'n"
We're two lost souls on the highway of life
And there's no one with whom we would ruther
Say, "Ain't it just great, ain't it just grand?"
We've got each other!"
They both laughed, at this point they were both a little drunk.
"Eponine, I think this is the start of a beautiful friendship." Erik said to his new friend
"Wherever we go, whatever we do
As long as you've got me, and I've got you
We've got each other
We ain't fussin'- cuz we got "us'n."
This song is from Damn Yankees. I've always thought that Erik and Eponine could be great friends and when I was listening to this song, I thought of this story. Now the chances that Erik would be in a bar are slim to none and I think the same goes for Eponine, but I thought it'd be fun anyway. Hope you enjoyed it! And if you haven't heard this song, go look it up!
