Very slight spoilers for the end of Turnabout Samurai.

"I want to see him sweat," was the first thing Phoenix Wright said upon seeing the prosecution, one Miles Edgeworth.

"N-Nick!" Maya stuttered, "I really don't need to know these things!"

Nick blinked, then flushed, "With nervousness! Sweat with nervousness!"

"O-oh. I knew that."

Across the courtroom, Edgeworth smirked.

"Umm... Mr. Wright? Is... this guy your friend?" Will Powers asked, awkwardly scratching the back of his neck.

"What? Friends? As if!" Maya cut in before Nick could answer, "They're rivals! Rivals! Right, Nick?"

Nick hesitated, thinking what to say, "For now we are... I guess."

"C'mon, Nick! Tell me! What's the deal with you and Edgeworth?" Maya persisted in the car as they drove to her favorite burger joint.

Phoenix's hands tightened on the wheel.

"No secret past I should know about? Like being ex-childhood friends or-"

"Look, the fact that I want his body doesn't mean-"

"Want his body?!" Maya squawked, "What-?"

Nick started to sweat. "In jail. Want his body in jail," he amended hastily.

"In jail? Why would you want Mr. Edgeworth to go to jail?"

"So he couldn't... prosecute... so... good." He was pretty sure the hesitation and poor grammar would tip her off, but luckily for him, Maya was gullible.

She shrugged, "Wouldn't life be more boring?"

"I could deal," he was too relieved she'd bought the lie to think of a better response.

Maya turned to look out the window at the passing buildings, "Whatever. You're just weird I guess."

Somewhere, Edgeworth smirked.

"Hey, Nick, you know how everyone says Mr. Edgeworth would do anything to get a guilty verdict?"

Nick, attempting to balance a pencil on his nose while waiting for a new client, waited a nanosecond for the pencil to fall before answering, "Yeah. What about it?"

"Well, it occurred to me the other day while watching Pink Princess that usually people use that phrase when they mean, you know, like, sleeping with someone. So I was just wondering, do you think Mr. Edgeworth would sleep with the Judge?"

Nick choked, "Maya, you-"

"OOH! OOH! Or he'd sleep with you, so you would argue badly on purpose!" She stood up and slammed her hands on the table, "Nick, you can't ever sleep with Mr. Edgeworth, do you hear me??!!"

He loosened his collar, "It's-it's not a problem, Maya... and what do you mean argue badly on purpose? Are you saying I argue badly in general?!"

There are some things that are simply too difficult to explain. One such thing was that the advice was too late and another was how precisely Phoenix Wright knew that wherever he was, Edgeworth was smirking.

In my defense, it was proven in Turnabout Samurai that Edgeworth can, in fact, read Nick's thoughts, so it's not total crack. (Let's ignore the fact that it was facial expressions, not thoughts.)

These were way too easy to write. This pairing is ridiculously canon.
