He found her like this huddled and crying in the only place she knew no one would look…no one but him. As he held her trembling body in his arms he was acutely aware of the intense heat between them he gently rubbed her back and she firmly wrapped her arms around his, her tears creating a pool of dampness on his shoulder and the crock of his neck. There was nothing to say, no words could sooth her, he'd been there too and the horror still woke him in the night. They were gone the Commander blew those bustards up like they deserved but it still didn't erase what happened there. As he looked around the room he couldn't help but feel further loss, Jack was dead she lost her life while in that hell hole, Grunt, and Samara too. He slowly began to rock her back and forth on the convict's former bed. She was trembling less now most likely exhausted from crying so hard.
" Ken," her voice weak and trembling broke the near silence.
" I'm here love." He said beginning to rub her back once more.
She laughed alitle, " You just called me love," her voice still weighed down by tears remained.
He feigned a laugh it wasn't that he wasn't happier to hear her voice but the fog of her despair had yet to properly clear, " We say love like you say mate or…" He trailed off she sighed he took a moment inhaling slowly and letting it out just as slow, " But….I mean it….love."
Slowly she let go, pulled back and finally looked at him her redden, tear streaked face was almost as red as her soft hair. Her eyes no longer green like July but red like autumn. Her smile was strained but she smiled nonetheless.
" I thought you had a woman," She tired to joke.
" You're my girl," He smiled back, " You always have been," tentively he risked running a finger though the first messy strands of fire red locks. He was half surprised she let him, and it filled him with bit of hope.
Her smile seemed to light up the darkened room she leaned forward and kissed him softly before retreating back her smile now more sheepish then before, " Thanks Kenneth, for everything."
He couldn't do anything but smile back he knew then in that moment they would get through this, but they'd get through it all together.
