Disclaimer: I don't own Glee or any of the characters. I'm strictly borrowing them in order to bring life to my own little world.

Spoilers: future fic, so none I guess.

A/N: This is just a little drabble I literally just wrote up. Failed at writing a Xmas fic, so I settled for a New Year's one :P Happy reading and Happy New Year!

Happy New Year

It should've been special. She should've been having fun. She was celebrating the New Year in New York, finally far away from Lima, Ohio and even farther away from the hellish experience she'd called high school. She was in Times Square, surrounded by new people and new sounds and beautiful fireworks and lights and billboards… everything she'd ever dreamed it would be… and yet she wasn't happy. There was no giddiness over her newfound freedom nor a desire to immerse herself in the intoxicating atmosphere that engulfed her. Despite having a lot to be thankful for that should certainly be reason for celebration, she just knew she could never be fully happy until one specific dream came through, one she had no doubt would never be fulfilled.

Still, it was a new year, so she pulled out her phone from her pocket and typed out a quick text.

Happy New Year.

Not expecting a reply, she pocketed her phone and took a generous sip of her coffee, cradling the paper cup in both hands to absorb its heat. She let out a contented sigh as the warm liquid made its way down her throat and a small smile finally managed to form on her lips. A confused frown instantly took over however when she felt her phone vibrating against her side (there was really no way of hearing it over the roaring noise). Pulling the device out and seeing who the text was from, she took a deep breath before pressing "view message".

Happy New Year Rachel, it read, I hope this one brings you happiness and one step closer to whichever dreams you haven't fulfilled yet

She was gawking. She knew she'd look ridiculous to anyone who glanced at her, but she couldn't help staring at her screen.

"She called me Rachel," she whispered to herself. Granted it had been quite a while since she'd called her "Manhands" or "Treasure Trail", but she'd usually stuck to "Berry". "Wow," she breathed out.

Then a hand gently placed itself on her shoulder and she nearly jumped out of her skin.

"Hi," Quinn greeted softly.

"Hi," Rachel replied. Her eyes were wide with shock and nerves. She just couldn't believe this was happening.

Almost like the blonde could read her mind, she took a step closer and tenderly cupped her cheeks, the warm fingers on her face letting Rachel know she was really there. Brilliant hazel eyes gazed heavily into hers and she had to take in a shaky breath, only to have it quickly knocked back out of her when a pair of soft lips pressed oh so heavenly against hers.

"What was that?" Rachel whispered hazily, her mind a jumbled mess except for the thought that Quinn Fabray had just kissed her.

"My new year's resolution," Quinn replied softly, pressing her forehead to the brunette's, "I told myself I was going to stop being scared and chase after what I wanted."

"I've wanted this too," said Rachel, blinking away the tears that were blurring the blonde from her vision, "I've wanted this for a long time."

"Me too," said Quinn, the emotion clear in her voice, "Happy New Year Rachel."

"Happy New Year Quinn."

And as their lips met again and their arms wrapped around each other, Rachel couldn't help thinking that it was indeed a happy new year.

Whereas a few hours ago it should've been special and she should've been having fun, now it was magical and she couldn't wait to see what the year ahead held for her.
