Her boots hurt. So much. Partially from her workout but more so from her fight with Rebekah last week. Caroline lost a bet in her own dojo. Not okay.
So that meant she was stuck with Klaus, Rebekah's pretentious older brother that gave off some serious Mr. Darcy vibes. But who was she to judge?
She was the one carrying a paper bag of essentials for Klaus to use while he stayed in her guest room. It really wasn't her to forget about toiletries until the night before a guest's arrival.
Caroline had just had a hectic kind of week after her loss and her friend's triumphant win. So when she sat down to cold Chinese noodles earlier it hit her that he might forget a toothbrush.
The list only grew from there and ended up in the bag held up by her arms as her phone sat snuggled between her shoulder and ear craning her neck.
Her eyes rolling painfully as they met the dark lit sky, pollution hiding the stars she used to look up yo in the same apartment she lived in now. Her mother had moved out, choosing to spend her life back in her old home town once Caroline's father had passed leaving Caroline with said apartment.
"What is with you?" she grieved as Enzo laughed on the other end of the line, they'd been talking on her walk home. He said it was something about her safety.
"I just want what's best for my spinster of a best friend," he teased as Caroline made a sound that wasn't quite friendly in response.
"Enzo!" the blonde cried rummage through her crossover bag for her key to the front lobby of her apartment before she switched the phone to her other ear and got the door open.
Enzo spoke, "Are you home yet?" he asked as Caroline slipped inside sighing in relief from the cold chill of the night relief that was short lived when she saw the 'Elevator Broken' sign.
"I'm coming up the stairs, why?" she asked as she fiddled with the keys in one hand and set the bag of necessities over on her hip as she reached her floor.
"Just making sure you get there safe," he replies with a hint of affection that makes Caroline smile at her friend even if he can't see it.
"Aww, you're worried?" she sighed as she strolled through the hallway, "Honey," she teased back in an attempt to rouse him from the grumpy mood she could feel him slipping into.
"Don't gorgeous," Enzo tells her returning to his normally devilish self if the nickname he used for her wasn't sign, "If something happens to you I have to start being nice to people again."
"Ass," she grumbled out as she reached her door smiling at the familiar brown stained door frame she'd always known.
"Get your keys out," he told her as she slipped her key into the lock socket turning it over hearing it unlock before she answered feeling the bag slip from her side.
"Will you hang on?" she answers back as she pushes the door open only to have unfamiliar hands reach for the paper bag, "Aghhhhhh!" she cried out dropping her phone on the living room floor..
"Caroline?" she heard Enzo shout as the bag left her arms landing on the floor as her arms drew up feelling the unfamiliar hands grab her in the dark of her her home.
"Fuckity fuck," she shrieked as she went on attack, her purse chan tangling in her hair as she kneed her attacker in the groin hearing him fall to his knees as she grabbed for her phone.
His hands reached for her pulling her down with him rolling as they tussled, "I'm not here to kill you," Klaus growled as she headbutted him when he showed no signs of slowing down.
"Son of a-" Caroline growled realizing just who her 'Attacker' was when she finally rolled him onto his back with her atop him.
"Witch," Klaus grumbled from underneath her, "Well, she thought," Caroline scoffed hating that she could actually hear his smirk in the dark of the room.
Her hands flew to his chest smacking him in warning, "You scared me," she responds trying to keep her wits about her as she inhaled his musky scent.
He let his head fall back on the wooden floor,"Your weak form terrified me," Klaus groaned out tiredly as her hips met his.
Caroline let her stomach lie over his as she looked him dead in the eye, "Excuse me, I'm a black belt and an instructor," she said with her palms flat on his chest.
He chuckles and she's so not amused, "That solves that," he says as his hands fall on her waist, "You haven't been in a real fight for some time."
"You are, really" Caroline tries her best to articulate words but damn him, he interjects before she can try.
"Handsome? Stimulating?" he mocks as he sits up taking her with him his body pressing closely to hers.
"Modest." she answers, he laughs at that, "I thought you weren't supposed to come until the morning?"
Caroline reaches behind him unconscious of the rocking action of her hips that sends Klaus into a tizzy.
She finally manages to reach for the edge of phone with a single finger bringing it closer until she can grasp it, "I have Rebekah's text here" she insists.
Klaus shuts his eyes unable to keep the need she's created from his voice, "Um, Sweetheart, if you're going to keep writhing on top of me like that you're going to feel another surprise by your thigh." he warns.
Caroline shoots up off of Klaus, "Oh my god, I was not writhing, get up," she tells him as his eyes rake over her standing frame.
He smirks, "It felt a little bit deliberate, on your part," he adds as he crawls to his feet with no rush confidence radiating in every move.
She laughs dryly placing a hand on her hip as he clears the space between them, "You know what?" his sister's friend said looking brighter than before, "I just figured out how to describe you."
Klaus felt his smirk grow into a genuine smile outwardly amazed by her, "How's that?" he asked brushing down his shirt as he awaited her judgement.
"As Rebekah's brother." Caroline murmured from under his curious stare, "Pure and simple." she adds breathlessly as she sends ends a text that she's fine.
Klaus shakes his head, the words 'Pure' and 'Simple' had never applied to his family. "Sorry Love," he mutters.
She lets out a happy sound, "See? That right there." she points out, "I knew it was part of the Mikaelson charm, apologizing but not looking the least bit sorry."
He watches Caroline yawn, he takes it as a good sign, "Tired?" he asks her drawing closer.
The blonde nods, "Now that the danger aspect has worn off for the evening," she pauses throwing him a look, "I think I'll show you your room."
Klaus agrees quietly but his mouth gets away from him controlled not by his brain but some place below his belt, "You could show me your bed."
A flabbergasted Caroline looks at him, "I thought the flirt was Kol," she utters sobering from her brief shock at his proposition.
"You must inspire me then," he answers back with a lift of his brows making her blush heat rushing down to her core.
"You are really full of," she stops realizing she was stomping filling what was left of the space between them.
Caroline shakes her head, "Nope, not going there." she sighs refusing to meet his eyes, darkening blue eyes she knows haven't left her.
Why did she have to have the hots for him she asked herself, "Blushing are you?" Klaus asks with a glitter of amusement in his tone as his words caress her overheated face.
"It's dark," she supplies gently careful to keep her answer short to keep the edginess out of her tone, "If I was how could you tell?" her voice various shades of nervous.
"I can hear it in your voice," he murmurs knowing that if he lifted his lips a fraction higher their lips would brush and he would get to revel in her supple lips. He imagined she was a glorious kisser.
Caroline cleared her throat stepping back from their little bubble, bursting it before she could lean forward and kiss him because Rebekah might just murder her. Although Caroline had been sick the day they battled out whether or not Klaus would be staying with her or his sister and his sister's obnoxious boyfriend, Enzo.
As far as Caroline was concerned Klaus, who was an international karate champion could handle sleeping in his sister's apartment while he found a place of his own. But Rebekah had decided that that was not entirely the case and so ensued the battle of wills because the only female Mikaelson know that Caroline would win at a battle of wits.
"Your room's just here," she said in the same tone as he while she moved towards the door across from her own, her old bedroom, she tried not to think about that. About Klaus her high school crush sleeping in her childhood bedroom. Yeah, not hard.
"Caroline," her name dripping from his lips making her knees go weak as she opened the door to show him her bra, wait her bed. She meant bed.
Caroline laughed nervously, "Hey, you used my name," she joked sadly as she walked inside remembering she hadn't fixed it up as well as she would have had Klaus waited to get here until morning.
Speaking of, he shakes his head as is she's said something out of turn, "I think you're wrong," he murmurs, "The danger aspect of me being here hasn't worn off."
He hears her suck in a breath, "And why not?" she asks, her whole body on alert as he inclines his head a fraction to whisper ever so softly.
Klaus smiles,"Because I think I'm in danger every time I look in those blazing green eyes of yours," he promises looking like he might just kiss her and be down with this built tension but he doesn't he just steps back grinning. Like he;s gonna bid his time.
That breath that's been stuck in her comes out, long and drawn out as her body eases and absorbs his words, "That was…cheesy but effective." she asserts.
"Speaking of cheese, food?" Klaus changes the subject quickly still surprising her with that happy go lucky attitude, where exactly was Darcy tonight?
She follows along as he walks out of the room, "You're hungry?" she asks watching him first turn his head over his shoulder to look at her, then slowly, his whole body.
"I could eat," he smirks, son a witch, she thinks, "There's that blush. It's beautiful," he utters as she shakes her head taking a step in the direction of her bedroom.
"Go to bed," she mutters from under his winding stare that has Caroline's heartbeat skipping like a techno song at an underground rave as he walks towards her.
He stops short of the door haven't been invited in, his eyes appraising, "Pleasant dreams, Love," he whispers as Caroline uses the door in front of her as a shield.
"Sleep sweet, Klaus," she says just as quietly as the door begins to hid him from view shutting with a soft thud as Caroline drops to the floor.
Yup, she was screwed, she thought as she heard Klaus tread back into his bedroom and shut the door behind him. The blonde crawled her way to her bed moping inaudibly as she popped off her boots, shrugged out of her jeans and threw off her top.
"Fuckity fuck," she repeated her earlier words as she threw herself down on her back, her mattress so perfectly comfy after her day, after her encounter with Klaus. Klaus. She really shouldn't bring him up in her bed if she didn't want to have those dirty dreams about him from high school coming back to haunt her.
