Their mother was stuck in her past.
That's what Rei thought every time she came to visit him and Lugh as she traveled. They'd see her once a year, and she always had a story to tell them.
Rei wanted to hear about Eturia and Sacae and the things that she had seen and learned. But her stories were always about his father, and how he had saved her life when she was just older than them. Or, for a change, she might talk about her father and brothers.
It was getting boring, really.
"Mother." She stopped her story about practicing magic under the eye Eturia's former Mage General and looked at her son.
Lugh stared at him. He still liked these stories.
"What is it, Rei?" She smiled at him.
"What about Eturia? Didn't you just come back from there?"
"Oh, yes. I stopped and spoke with Lord Pent. He and Lady Louise have a daughter, I think she's near your age. Oh, I remember Louise was so happy when she announced she was pregnant with her first, her son. Even your father said congratulations." She giggled. "Everyone was a little shocked. That he'd actually said something, and something kind. But, I remember-"
Rei sighed. This was so boring.
