Summary: JJ and Emily are out for a few drinks and JJ starts to grill her about a particular partner. Short Demily fluff.
Inquisition by JJ
"So what's the deal with you and Derek?" JJ bluntly asked as her friend started on her third beer.
Emily Prentiss nearly spit out the drink. "What?"
The blonde FBI agent grinned. "Come on, Emily, we all can see it."
"JJ, I…" She took another drink.
"Soooo, there is something."
"No, there's not."
"Em, it's just you and me. Is he why you wouldn't call Mr. Hot British guy?"
Emily stared at her friend. "How many drinks have you had?"
"Not as many as you," she retorted.
"What made you even bring this up?"
JJ sat back in the bench. "When you were shot the other week, even though it was just a graze, he refused to leave your side."
"He's done that before."
"Yes, he has. Many times. And so have you for him."
"We're partners. It's what we do."
"He was devastated when I told them you had died. Not just in a he lost a friend or partner way but truly devastated. I almost pulled him aside that night and told him but I knew I couldn't."
Emily stared down into her beer. She sighed then looked back up at her friend. "Honestly? I don't know. Maybe there is something but it's nothing we have ever even hinted at with each other."
JJ laughed. "Never hinted at? The way you two flirt?"
"Hey! He flirts with Garcia just as much if not way more."
"But with you it's different."
"JJ, I really don't want to have this discussion."
"Fine. But think about it. We all know that Derek has always been a player except when you've been around. Despite his reputation have you ever seen him date anyone since you joined the BAU? And he was so focused on avenging your death he didn't even flirt with anyone let alone date."
At that very moment Emily's phone buzzed and Derek's picture showed up.
JJ grinned and Emily just groaned knowing she'd never hear the end of it.
She answered the call, glaring at JJ. "Hey, did you call to rescue me from JJ's inquisition?"
"Um…. If that's what you need, sure," he chuckled. "I was actually calling to see if you wanted to catch a movie tonight but if you're out with JJ, we can go another time."
Hesitating a moment, she responded. "We're actually getting ready to leave. What time were you thinking?"
"Would the eleven showing be too late?"
She smiled, "No, it's perfect. I'll see you then." When she hung up she tried to avoid looking at JJ but she felt the smugness. "It's just a movie. We do that a lot. Don't read into it."
"I won't. I just want you to be happy. You, more than anyone, deserves it right now."
Derek opened the door for Emily and she walked into his apartment.
"You sure you don't mind going so late?" he asked, grabbing his jacket.
She smiled at him. "I'm sure. I have you there to protect me," she laughed.
"So what was JJ grilling you about?"
Emily stepped closer to him. "Us."
His eyes went wide. "Us?"
"Yep," she replied, sliding her arm around his neck.
Slipping his arms around her waist, he asked, "Does she know?"
"Nope."
"Well you are certainly full of answers tonight," he laughed, pulling her closer.
"She was asking if there was anything going on. I told her no then she just went on about how I should think about it. How you are always there for me and me for you and she just wants me to be happy."
"Are you happy?"
"Very." She softly kissed him. "I couldn't be happier."
"We could skip the movie," he offered, losing himself in her kiss.
"We could."
"D.C. can be dangerous after dark," he stated.
"Very much so," she agreed.
Tossing his jacket back on the couch, he pulled Emily close, kissing her as they made their way down the hall to his bedroom.
