"If I was with Finn…" Four simple words and a proper noun, and Rachel Berry could get whatever she wants. All she would have to do is use her years of training, look sad and utter that phrase, and Noah would give her whatever she wanted.
"If I was with Finn, he would take the Christmas picture with me," Rachel said glumly, and instantly he felt guilty and angry toward his former best friend. Three hours later, he was smiling like an idiot wearing a matching wool sweater.
"If I was with Finn, he would watch this musical with me," Rachel pouted, protruding her lower lip. He jumped up, inserted West Side Story, and curled up next to her, whispering reasons why he was a better boyfriend than Finn.
"If I was with Finn, he would go with me," Rachel sighed, pulling her bag over her shoulder. He readily agreed to go to her yoga class with her, even if he doubt in the back of his mind whether his best friend would do this.
"If I was with Finn, he would buy me this," Rachel looked down at the item she wanted in despair. He pulled out his wallet and handed the cashier the $100 for the shirt she wanted. His (ex)best friend was always strapped for cash. He could never have afforded it, and if he could, wouldn't want to. Puck closed his eyes for a moment, vowing to himself that he would never fall for her stunt again. Yet, week after week, he found himself grocery shopping instead of watching a game with Artie, seeing a "romantic comedy" instead of the action movie he wanted to see, holding arms full of bags from every possible store imaginable, even taking Rachel, Mercedes and Quinn to get mani-pedis. Finally, he snapped.
"If I was with Finn, he", Rachel began, eyes already brimming with pretend tears.
"What? What would he do? What would he do to be the perfect boyfriend? What do you think your delusional vision of Finn would do? Cause, babe, the Finn I knew, the same one you knew, would never take a Christmas picture for you, never buy you anything, and definitely would not go to a yoga class with you. So please, tell me what Finn would do." Rachel shook her head, real tears free falling from her eyes. "No, go ahead I want, no need to hear this."
She shook her head again, but a glare from him forced her to continue. "If-if.." her voice choked as it became harder and harder to tell blubbering from words. "If I..if I was with Finn," Rachel finally managed.
"What, you wouldn't be having this conversation? Hell yeah you wouldn't, because you would be dumped right now! Bags packed and on the streets. What does he do, Rach that makes him so much better than me?" His tone was one of hurt and defeat by the end of his rant.
She couldn't say anything. She couldn't do anything. So she did nothing. She cried. She stood there as his chest heaved. Finally, she watched as he turned on his heel and tore to the door.
"If I was with Finn," she screamed to him as he slammed the door to their apartment together, causing frames containing photos of them to crack in almost a symbolic way.
She sank to the floor. She was unable to stand any longer. She rested her head on her arms. She wept. She was only able to whisper as sobs wracked her body.
"If I was with finn, I would still love you."
A/N: Sooo..long time no see? Snow days do wonderful things for the creative process, eh? I just want to say that I am the largest Puck/Rachel fan and absolutely despise Finn, but this story was begging to be written! So it was. Anyway, so review pretty please!
Just think of it as a birthday present to me, since today's my birthday..okay so yes do it!
