A/N: Just a random thing…MoJo fluff basically…hope you enjoy!
Disclaimer: I don't own RENT [Jonathan Larson does], the song Let It Be, or the song Strawberry Fields Forever. The Beatles own those two.
Joanne stood at the kitchen counter, drumming her fingers impatiently against the marble top. She glanced at the clock; Maureen should have been home over an hour ago. Where was she?
Joanne sighed in resignation and walked over to the refrigerator to start something for dinner. She stared for several minutes at the possibilities, and finally pulled a carton of strawberries out.
Maureen loved strawberries; if she ever showed up she would be overjoyed. Joanne began the long process of washing and cutting up the berries, the metal knife flashing in the late afternoon sunlight which streamed through the kitchen window above the sink.
As she worked, Joanne began to hum, and eventually she started singing and dancing a little while still cutting up the red berries.
"When I find myself in times of trouble, mother Mary comes to me, speaking words of wisdom, let it be."
Joanne licked some of the sticky juice off her fingers.
"And in my hour of darkness, she is standing right in front of me, speaking words of wisdom, let it be."
Joanne dumped the cut up berries into a dark blue bowl and started to clean up.
"Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be. Whisper words of wisdom, let it be."
The front door opened slowly and Maureen walked in, holding something behind her back lest Joanne be standing there. Seeing that Joanne wasn't in the hallway awaiting her return, Maureen began to close the door softly.
"And when the broken hearted people living in the world agree, there will be an answer, let it be."
Maureen paused in mid-step as a beautiful voice floated to her ears from the kitchen. But…Joanne didn't sing, did she? Maureen had never heard her and she was sure that she never had. But there was no mistaking the voice as any other than that of Maureen's lover.
"For though they may be parted, there is still a chance that they will see, there will be an answer, let it be."
Maureen stood in the doorway to the kitchen and watched as Joanne sprinkled sugar from the sugar bowl into a dark blue bowl. Spying the carton, Maureen knew that it could only be strawberries, and she felt even guilter for being late. But hopefully…
"Let it be, let it be, let it be, yeah, let it be. Whisper words of wisdom, let it be."
Joanne sang softer now, becoming more lost in her own thoughts.
"And when the night is cloudy, there is still a light, that shines on me, shine until tomorrow, let it be."
"I wake up to the sound of music," Maureen came in and Joanne spun around, her heart racing only to find her girlfriend, still singing, "mother Mary comes to me."
"Speaking words of wisdom, let it be." Joanne finished, singing along with Maureen.
There was silence and then Maureen held out what had been behind her back. Joanne gasped and broke into a huge grin, any annoyance at Maureen vanishing in an instant. "Oh, Maureen! How did you know that white lilies are my favourite?" Maureen just smiled.
"We know each other pretty well."
A/N: Yepp, lame ending. Sorry about that. Let me know what you thought, and if I totally destroyed the Beatles song. Once again, sorry if I did that. But yeah…I'll stop rambling now…
Oh but first, an announcement! [What, you thought you could get rid of me?! HAH!] I'm moving in a week, so I'll try to get my stories updated before that, but I'm not sure how long I'll have to go without a computer…so don't kill me and wish me luck packing!
And now I'm done!
