June was her favorite month. Her birthday was in August, so one would think that would be high on the list, but no, June was hers.

Flowers in bloom in the middle of parks, people's yards and in the bouquets of every bride in Vegas. She hoped to one day be the one holding the bouquet, but in reality she had very little hope of being married. What she knew of marriage came from her parents. She eventually learned that they were not the best role models. Most of her hope was filed in her heart under the name of Gil Grissom. Sometimes it seemed to be the only file in existence, but lately that was changing. Hope sprouted other file folders labeled friendship, work, and forgiveness, not necessarily in that order. Alphabetical order was not an issue with hope, but simply a container for her future files.

Forgiveness was mostly about her parents and her violent upbringing. She knew very well that parents did not look into the eyes of their newborn child and count the ways they could screw up its' life. Since her revelation to Grissom about her family, she was slowly tiptoeing through the rubble of her life to salvage any good memories from her childhood. She was surprised at the number of fragments she had saved and stored recently. The other piece of forgiveness was reserved for Catherine, but that folder was not opened very often anymore.

Friendship was the next file she frequented these days. She had genuinely laughed and been elated when Greg passed his CSI test and could work with her as a peer. He was also becoming a good friend, and Lord knows, she needed more of those. Since Nick's kidnapping, she had made a concerted effort to get him out of his house, out of his memories. They had a lot of fun together, sometimes with Warrick and Greg, sometimes alone.

It surprised her that work was the last folder she stored in her hope cabinet. She was working well with her coworkers, even Grissom. She had discarded her need to impress him, and had matured as a CSI of her own standing. She knew she was good at her job, and she knew others knew it too. She and Greg has developed a good symbiotic working relationship. Where she and Grissom could read each other's minds and work a scene accurately and swiftly with little talk, she now had that camaraderie with Greg. It was a freeing emotion to know that Grissom was not her only compadre.

Being Sara Sidle was a good thing again, and she was hopeful.
