The pain was everywhere. His body seemed to be in such pain that is was
unbearable and so he did the only thing he could do - he screamed. A
shrill cry echoing passed his lips, echoing around him in the dark abyss,
and returning only to hurt his ears - but he continued to scream
nonetheless, he yelled until his throat was raw and could take no more. He
hoped the pain would lessen, that he would become numb to it; he wanted to
die.
Then they started. He remembered hearing them before he fell in; the whispers. Now he heard them again, soft whispers in his ears telling him things he did not want to hear.
'James and Lily are dead.'
'It's your fault'
'Harry will die soon too'
'It will be your fault.'
'You failed as a friend'
'You failed as a godfather.'
'You are useless . . . hopeless . . .worthless.'
On an on they continued, berating him with his own worst fears. Then the images began appearing. James' body, cold and lifeless with his eyes still wide open; Lily dead with a tear frozen on her cheek and a single hand extended forward - reaching for her child, Remus standing alone, cold and weak, tears falling from his eyes and onto his lips.
They kept coming. The whispers, the images, and the agonizing pain - all ignoring his pleas for help . . .for mercy.

"There is nothing worse then death, Dumbledore!" snarled Voldemort.
"You are quite wrong," Dumbledore said. "Indeed, your failure to understand that there are things much worse then death has always been your greatest weakness."
