A/N: Heeeyyyoooo! This is me, CeruleanKiss, your fair author, going back through this story and tweaking quite a lot of things. It's going to be so much better than before! Woop woop! XD
It will be somewhat different, as I will be going through each chapter I've posted thus far and taking out the old and shoveling in the new ^_^ Don't worry, it shan't be too different from before. The idea of the story is still the same. And I'll leave in all the good parts I've written thus far, even make them better, funnier, all that good stuff!
Oh, very important: yes I changed the name of the story from 'The Cursed Doppleganger & That Damn Tengu' to 'The Idolized Tengu & His Cursed Companion' It fits much better with the story because I've decided to take out the whole concept of Hizuru looking weirdly similar to Nanami. It just wasn't necessary because it actually isn't important that they appeared to look alike, I only needed that for when Kurama mistook Hizuru for Nanami and I realize now that I could just have him not really be paying attention and just assume that Hizuru was Nanami. And also (*spoilers!*) Nanami is Yukiji which is already confusing enough as it is so why add onto that confusion and have a third girl look just like the two of them? No, just, no. Please forgive past me for being such a fool.
DISCLAIMER! I don't own Kamisama Hajimemashita :'( But I do own this particular story, and my OCs :D
Alright, here is... THEE OPENING CHAPTER! CUE THE DRAMATIC MUSIC!
Chapter 1
Mistaken Identity
*Sigh*
"..."
*SIGH*
"What is it, Kurama?"
"Oh, Nanami, I just –"
"Don't listen to that damn tengu, Nanami. He's not good company."
Kurama glared at the silver-haired boy.
"I am perfect company. I'm rich, I'm famous, I'm good looking, I'm –"
"Arrogant." Nanami added in a dull tone of voice.
"Going to be turned into an ostrich once again, if you don't shut up." Tomoe sent the crow a look of pure irritation.
Kurama immediately went silent, standing up straight after he'd been leaning against the wall beside Nanami's desk for some time. His eyes narrowed when the fox familiar chuckled at him, and then the fox went back to watching Nanami eat. Kurama eyed the demon for a moment, and then his eyes settled on the girl as well.
Suddenly, the brunette slammed her chopsticks down and turned around in her seat, looking... angry?
"Could you two STOP staring at me like that?! It's like I can sense your eyes on me, and it's giving me a creepy feeling."
Tomoe looked amused, and then his gaze turned on the rock star who had leaned back against the wall once again.
"Leave, crow. You're 'giving her a creepy feeling'." He quoted his mistress perfectly.
"I can watch her if you can, fox." Kurama spat back, folding his arms like an indignant child.
"UGH!"
Suddenly, the girl stood up, leaving her unfinished lunch behind as she exited the room, saying something about the bathroom and 'needing a break from you two idiots'.
Kurama just shrugged, and suddenly there was a something blocking the path in front of him. The fox.
"You need to stop." Tomoe said, his amethyst eyes narrowed dangerously.
Kurama scoffed. "Stop what?"
"Stop pursuing Nanami. She isn't interested in the likes of you, and I'm never going to allow you to have her."
"How am I posing any threat to either of you?"
It was Tomoe's turn to scoff.
"You want to eat her heart. That very much so threatens my master, which means it also is a threat to me."
Kurama gave an offhanded shrug. "Maybe I want to protect it, not eat it."
Tomoe backed up a step, regarding the other with a clawed hand placed under his chin. "If that is the case," he shot Kurama a look that said he highly doubted it actually was. "Then I'd like to remind you that protecting Nanami isn't your job, it's mine." He turned, heading for the classroom door. His voice was light and condescending in its nature as he finished up with, "Keep your beak out of our business, crow."
Being spoken to like that really rubbed the pop star the wrong way. He laughed bitterly, watching the fox halt at the sound. "Fine then. I have all the girls I could want anyway. And who do you have? A whiny, flat-chested, over-sensitive and foolish little –"
*SMACK!*
Some of the people in class looked up, but Kurama had already straightened up and was smiling like nothing had happened. Nobody noticed the blooming hand-print mark that was reddening on his cheek. He was surprised that claws hadn't dug into his perfect skin as well.
Tomoe's eyes were just slits, his voice was a growl. "Do not. Insult. My master."
"Jeez," Kurama said, sliding elegantly past Tomoe and walking towards the door with ease. "Stupid fox. You almost left a serious mark on my beautiful face. Over-protective much?" He was acting as if he wasn't phased by the slap in order to irk the other, but inwardly Kurama was secretly a bit terrified of the defensive rage glowing in the other yokai's eyes.
Tomoe just grunted and followed after Kurama, turning towards the bathrooms down the hall while the tengu turned and walked the other way, headed towards the stairs that led up to the roof.
He needed some air and time to himself. That stupid fox never ceased to make him uneasy.
-X-
The girl was a mess.
After her class, her terrible, awful class, as soon as lunch came, she was OUT OF THERE.
She didn't know why people were so... so...
No. It wasn't people. It was her.
Because she knew things that they didn't, because she knew things other humans shouldn't know and didn't understand, she was different from them all.
Secluded, she tried to avoid everyone. And then when they approached her, she simply couldn't stop talking – and rudely, at that.
She tried to seclude herself because, for one thing, she didn't care to talk with people unless they wanted it. If people want to communicate with you and get to know you, they'll come to you, right? And for another thing... she knew she was unable to make friends, so why put forth the effort, correct?
Those who did come to her... who tried to talk with her... well she was a bit too... how do you say... um, open? Blunt?
"Your nose is too big."
"I don't care for your cooking at all."
"Your eye sight must be terrible."
"Ha! Your brain must be the size of a grain of rice if you can't even get that question right."
Yes. She was straight-forward in a sinister way. She couldn't help it, she was cursed as a kid to be this way. No, seriously – with a literal, hard-core curse. Really. She had no choice but to just let the words flow right out of her mouth, whatever she thought, whatever thoughts they were, though especially the more offensive ones, she somehow couldn't hold them in.
Not having a bluntness filter sucked. Why? Because being honest to the point of hurting other's feelings meant she was very lacking in the friends department.
To be perfectly clear, she had none.
And so the girl was eating lunch alone, on the roof. Jeez, jeez... it sucked!
But how was she to help it? Her heart was encased in dark witchcraft. She could feel the evil pulling her in deeper and deeper, and she had no means of stopping it.
-X-
When Kurama finally reached the roof, he breathed in the spring air with much pleasure.
"Ahhh..." He sighed, walking forward and easily leaning against the railing at the edge, closing his eyes to think to himself.
He sort of... liked... Nanami.
No. No you don't, it's just a little... 'crush'.
But he liked her as a friend.
That is true.
But sometimes he wanted more from her. Because she was different from all the other girls.
Different isn't always good.
He was different.
In a good way!
"Ugh..." He opened his eyes, and suddenly, he sensed someone watching him.
Turning around, he saw a thin girl, with long brunette hair, big brown eyes, and dressed up in the skirt-and-tie combo that was the school's uniform. Her pale hand was on the door knob of the door that lead back inside, her face turned to look back at him, sneaking a glance over her shoulder.
Nanami. Was his first thought. After all, that specific girl was already on his mind.
But since when did she follow him up here? And why was she trying to leave? Had she come up to maybe talk to him, and then changed her mind?
He watched as her small, pink mouth opened to say something, and then suddenly, he just had this urge. He couldn't help himself, he'd wanted to do it for a very long time now, and he always thought he just might, just to see her reaction, just to see what would happen, but then that stupid fox would be there, like he knew exactly what Kurama was thinking at that moment. BUT –
Looking around now, there was no sign of the fox. Kurama couldn't even sense his presence anywhere near the roof. And that meant he had time to...
Leaping forward as her hand started to turn the knob of the door, he grabbed that hand, pulled the girl around, brought her close to his chest and firmly kissed her, so swiftly she hadn't even made a sound, as she didn't have the time to react.
-X-
She stood there, frozen solid, more confused than she had ever been in her entire life.
When the guy pulled away from her, after their not-too-unpleasant kiss, (actually, she kind of enjoyed it despite the fact she had hardly kissed back) he was smiling as if he had won the lottery. And then, for a moment, his smile faded as his eyes reopened and stared at her, long and hard.
As he stared at her, she took all of him in. And almost laughed.
Her older sister had posters of this guy hanging in her room! How did SHE, herself, end up KISSING HIM?! Well, rather, he kissed her but... WHY?
Another side effect of her curse was her ability to pay extremely close attention to detail. Whatever she looked at, she noticed everything about it. This was probably installed along with the curse so that it could detect even the tiniest of problems, flaws, etc.
His hair was nice, a deep maroon color, with fancy, sweeping bangs to frame his handsome face. His eyes were dark as coal and mysterious, coated lightly with eyeliner that was sort of brooding but worked in complimenting his looks. A few bands meant to be stylish chokers encircled his neck, a necklace with a black string leading to a silver wing charm at the end hung down into his slightly unbuttoned uniform shirt. And there was a strange-looking, round amulet kept on a chain around his neck over his shirt (boy did this guy sure like the bling!). Also seen beneath the white of the uniform shirt was another shirt, one that looked like it was made of silkier fabric, and it was a nice dark purple color. But the sleeves of it must be black, because when she looked at his arms, beneath the folded-up sleeves of the white button-up where silky black sleeves, long and reaching a bit past his wrists, with chained and metal bracelets hanging over the black fabric. Also, his skin was creamy and beautifully pale, and his complexion perfect – as an Idol's should be.
Her overall impression: she thought he looked like something out of a Gothic magazine. Or a Halloween store, if only he had a pair of black wings to accompany the whole look.
"How did I get bestowed the fantastic honor of lip wrestling with the great 'Fallen Angel from Hell'?" That was all she could say, her tone heavily dripping with sarcasm. She was far too shocked to offer a real reply.
Wait a minute... Although she was being sarcastic, that was all her own doing. She wasn't flat out insulting him in impulse – there was, for once, no harmfully frank comment on the tip of her tongue. Wow, this was AMAZING! The first person she hadn't insulted today... er, in a long while, actually... because he was so perfect looking, she couldn't find anything to comment on! Thank Kami there was nothing wrong with this guy.
But then he had to go and open his mouth, ruining such a nice moment of relief for her.
"You're not Nanami." He said, blinking and taking a quiet step back. And then, he seemed to collect himself. "And why the sarcasm? It is an honor." He smirked suddenly. "And I'd hardly call what we just did a 'wrestling of lips'." He moved in closer to her, snaking an arm around her thin waist. "I could show you that, though, if you'd like to know the difference."
He sounded so proud, so arrogant, so unbelievably... selfish, self-indulged. And her curse ate it up like wood to a fire. She couldn't help the words that were coming, even though she didn't want to insult someone her sister idolized.
"You're in the need for a serious attitude adjustment." She stated, poking him in the chest and making him take a step away, releasing her. "And yeah, I'm not Nanami, I don't even know a Nanami. And why the hell did you kiss me, you mistook me for her I'm guessing?"
He looked taken aback, giving her a stare like 'why aren't you marveling over my hotness?' and that only fueled the fire in her.
"WELL? What? Surprised I'm not bowing down at your feet for you? You know, I would. But I don't like your shoes almost as much as I don't like your personality, so I wouldn't want to have to stare at them." She said truthfully, noting that his shoes were a little too pointy for her liking as she glanced down at them. And they were shined so brilliantly that it was for some reason irritating.
He opened his mouth, but nothing came out. Thank Kami, because she didn't want to blow up at him again... she'd like to avoid confrontation with all people, but now especially him, because it would be a definite problem if she got on his bad side. All of his fangirls would gang up on her and she'd be so totally screwed. ("Never underestimate the power of fangirls!" Her sister would constantly remind her)
"By the way," She sighed desperately. This was the point in the conversation where she introduced herself so that he could know who it was exactly to hate. To stay away from. Because surely, if she wasn't going all gaga over him, then he'd want her out of his way. "My name's Hizuru. Bewaaare." She wiggled her fingers and warned him in a mock-spooky voice. "So, yeah. Bye."
She turned around, leaving him standing there gaping at her with his eyes widened in a comical way.
-X-
Kurama was both shocked and amazed, not to mention confused. Shocked because he had not expected her, especially after he had kissed her, to accuse him like that. Amazed because she had the guts to do it. And confused because he'd never seen this girl before, and she looked somewhat like Nanami from a distance, except now he realized he had made a huge mistake and this girl was very different from Nanami.
For example, though the two girls did look at least somewhat similar, they definitely had physical differences now that he was actually having a closer look. The girl he mistook for the Land God had her bangs parted and styled a different way, plus her hair was more of a dark brunette color compared to Nanami's, in fact he could compare it to a dark chocolate while Nanami's was more like milk chocolate. Another difference between them was that this girl's hair flowed down in subtle waves, while Nanami's hair was straight. And another thing, this girl had paler skin, (if that were even possible – Nanami was pretty pale herself) she was almost ghostly in appearance, and her eyes...
Her eyes were the same hue of lovely brown as the land god's actually, and just as big and doe-like. But behind the hue, somewhere inside the iris hid dark colors of shining golds that you couldn't really see unless you had the eyes of a supernatural being (and he did). The marks in her eye that showed that she was cursed. There was something lurking inside of her...
Hmm, a curse, huh? He himself had never really met anyone who was cursed. Unless the curse that bound Tomoe and Mizuki to Nanami counted... wait, was that a curse? It was a contract. He guessed that counted... Actually, to his knowledge, contracts were often a big part of curses. They are what binds the cursed being to the curse itself, and to the being who placed the curse.
He hadn't realized, being caught up in his thoughts, that she had turned her back on him now, and was already rushing down the stairs as the door was closing behind her. But wait, he wanted to know more about her! She had rejected him and run off so easily, but WHY? Surely it wasn't actually because she didn't like him. Everyone in school liked him, especially the girls.
Quicker than most, he shot through the door and captured her arm in his hand right as she got to the bottom of the stairs. She turned her head to face him, confusion and the faded glow of the curse markings evident in her eyes.
"What?"
"Is your name?" He added on playfully, flashing her a handsome grin.
"I just told you it, and can you let go of me?" She shook her head, her long locks of chocolate shaking as well with the movement as she tried to yank her arm free of him. It wasn't really working, due to his inhumanly strong grip.
"Well, can you tell it to me again? I happened to be lost in thought because of your distracting beauty."
She looked up at him with one last jerk of her arm, before stopping her actions to stare at him with widened eyes.
"Wh – what? I'm not – just... what? You're weird..."
He caught sight of the slightest blush on her face and his smile broadened.
"Weird? But that's funny – I think you're weird too."
"Good. That's so great. I really appreciate it –" The bell rang, signalling the end of lunch. "But since lunch is over, I have to get to class now, sooo..." She jerked for her arm again, but he only pulled her closer and leaned down to her level.
"Weird, because of the curse you carry with you." He whispered into her ear, watching intently as she froze up. Ah, see, he knew that would get her attention.
"You know?!"
He leaned back in a way that was all too casual and care free, and let go of her. But she was rooted to the spot now by his words, her eyebrows raised in shock, her features filled with apprehension.
The next words that she spoke made his eyebrows shoot up as well, though.
"Hold on." She examined him carefully for a moment. "Huh... Oh. You're a tengu? So you can sense things that regular people can't, that must be how you know."
-X-
The look he was giving her now was funny to watch – his shocked face was probably something not most people got to see because of his cool, 'I've got everything under control and can handle anything because let's face it, I'm awesome' demeanor.
She hadn't noticed his demonic aura right away because of the left over feel from the kiss earlier, the way her curse had taken over and she had to flee, and just the overall fact that there was so much of him to take in, she had somehow missed it at first glance. He was, after all, quite glamorous.
But now that she focused, she could sense it. Feel it all about him and around him – and she knew he was a tengu – sure, the necklace he wore with the winged charm on it held a clue, but that could also stand for his Idol image of the 'Fallen Angel' (which she now realized was not a gimmick like everyone thought. Well, to clarify, he wasn't an angel but a crow). No, she knew it because she was just... gifted like that. Every demon, any supernatural being that she saw, well first of all it was just remarkable that she could see them clearly unlike other humans, but also, she could identify them for who they were, what their kind was. She didn't know why she had this ability, no human should have this ability. And it wasn't due to her curse, because she was like this before she was cursed; she had simply always been... different. Or so she's been told. Her childhood was nothing but a blur to her.
Suddenly, a sharp, angered voice caught hers and the tengu's attention.
"Oi, crow! I can't find Nanami, have you done something with her? If you have, I'm not at all opposed to the idea of cooking ostrich meat tonight."
For a moment, all Hizuru could do was stand still and be stunned by the other beautiful boy coming towards them. His hair was silver, his eyes an intriguing purple. His face was perfection. His ivory skin seemed to glow with the balance of youth and strength. Oh hot damn, he was a sight to behold. There's no way he was human, his beauty surpassed that of mortals. And his presence just screamed something wild and not of this world. Kurama's aura must be better disguised due to being around humans for so long, but this other boy... his aura hit her hard, and nearly overpowered her senses.
Wait a minute, wait a minute! Since when had their school been inhabited by so many attractive yokai?! What was going on?! They didn't actually go here, did they? Why would they even want to go to school like regular humans?
"Yo, kitsune." Kurama sighed as the other young man came to a stop right in front of them, arms folded while he impatiently tapped his foot. "I haven't done anything." The crow said in order to assuage the other's anger, but then he smirked. "Maybe you simply lost track of her because that nose or yours has finally become useless. Such a shame that your senses are diminishing like that, you really must be getting too old, I bet your hearing will be the next to go."
The silver-haired guy clenched his fists tightly gripping his shirt sleeves, looking as if he had several heated comments to throw back at the other as well. Just as he opened his mouth, he was swiftly interrupted by Hizuru.
"Wait, kitsune?" She took a closer look at him. Oh, just like the Idol was concealing his wings, this boy was concealing his ears and tail with magic as well. "Oh, so you're a fox demon. That's interesting."
"Crows are ten times more interesting." Kurama proclaimed, while the other yokai took notice of Hizuru.
"Who are you?" He inquired, amethyst eyes peering at her curiously. "A friend of Nanami's?"
She threw her hands up in the air. Okay just who was this 'Nanami' person she kept hearing about? She seemed to be popular, apparently with strange, handsome yokai men.
"No, I'm not, I don't know any Nanami! And as for who I am, my name is Hizuru. Hi-zu-ru. Say it with me boys, it isn't hard."
"Hizuru?"
"Very good!" She reached up and patted his silver-haired head. Damn, soft hair. "Next time, I'll bring a treat for you as a reward. Do you like biscuits?"
Kurama snickered into his hand while the kitsune glared at her. "I am not a dog." His words were spoken in an icy tone that touched her very soul with a chill.
The feral look in his eyes kept her next witty comeback trapped behind closed lips. Maybe she shouldn't pat his head like that. Or treat him like a pet. It's just, she was very used to dogs (though that was a story for a later time).
"Crow." The fox turned his gaze back on the tengu. "Is she one of your idiotic fans?"
Before Kurama spoke, Hizuru answered. "Wrong again, fox boy. And p.s and by the way, you don't need to outright ignore me and speak of me in the third person when I'm literally standing a few inches away from you. Seriously, do yokai have no manners?"
He glanced down at her again, him and the crow both, and she stared right back at the two of them, pursing her lips. "Um... anyway..." Their combined unwavering gazes were making her flinch. Maybe she'd prefer to be ignored after all. "I gotta go now."
She tried to stalk her way out of there, get to class maybe before the teacher wrote her down as tardy, but she hit a wall in front of her. No, not a wall. Something else that had gotten in her way. A chest. The chest of a certain Idol that all girls love, except her, because she wasn't one to obsess over, well, anything.
Except food. Miso soup especially. She couldn't get enough of miso soup. It was so delicious- OH! And steamed buns. Steamed buns with a pork filling... YUM~ wait, who was pulling on her arm?
"Hey, stop that, lemme go to class!" She grunted at the attractive tengu who was yanking on her sleeve annoyingly.
"You still haven't said your name."
"Yes she has, bird brain." The other boy stated, crossing his arms and staring at the two of them with growing impatience. He still didn't know where Nanami was and they weren't helping much. Perhaps he shouldn't bother wasting time here...
"Full name." Kurama looked deep into her eyes, imploring her to tell him with a tempting glance and a wink.
"You are a real piece of work." Hizuru muttered, brown eyes narrowing as she glared up at him. "Alright I'll tell you, but then you have to stop bugging me." She clearly informed them both, though the fox looked a tad distracted. "Hey – do you even want to know? Fox boy?"
"I don't care to know your name. I'm just curious as to why you know about demons. How are your senses different from that of any regular human's? Nanami is the only human I know who is aware of such things, and that's just because of the situation she was fatefully put into." He started to look around, eyes searching. "Speaking of that idiot, just where the hell is she?"
"Who is Nanami anyway?"
"My master." He said it like it was a totally normal thing to say mid-conversation with a total stranger.
She looked up at Kurama, who was still gripping her sleeve. He shrugged.
"His master." He simply confirmed. "They have a... unique relationship."
The girl shook her head. This was the most eventful day she'd had in a long while. And it seemed like she was getting mixed up in some seriously weird stuff. Maybe she should leave while she still could and never look back... or maybe she should investigate further, if she could.
She shook her head a second time. Focus, give them answers, leave for class. That should be the plan.
"My 'full' name is Hizuru Mimori. I'm fifteen, nearly about sixteen years old. My favorite food is miso soup and I stand at 5 feet 4 inches tall. I have one sister and one legal guardian. No I don't have real parents. Yes this is my natural hair color. I'm a human, as you can tell, and before you ask, yes, I have a curse placed on me, and no, I won't go into detail about it. I can sense the supernatural simply because I have the... gift to do that. Don't ask me about that either – even I don't have the answers to that."
She forced her arm away this time, looking first up at Kurama, and then back at the other guy. They both looked a bit taken aback by her rush of words, especially since she purposefully over-fed them information about herself.
"That enough info for ya, fox boy? Crow?"
Kurama stood there, looking all haughty and full of himself, but with an added perplexed look on his face. The other guy, whom she still did not know the name of or really all that much care since he didn't care either way who she was either, was staring at her with increasing curiosity, and also now, caution.
They both nodded.
"I suppose." The one said, folding his arms and turning his head in the other direction.
"You can go, for now." Kurama added, smiling handsomely.
She just shook her head, sighing, completely aggravated because now she would have to deal with her sensei's wrath due to these two numskulls.
"I don't need your permission. Stupid freakin' yokai..." She mumbled as she pushed past them, and down the empty hallway. She could really go for a steamed bun right now. Oh, and some Miso soup to dip it in. Or some ramen. Ramen might be a good change of pace.
Her stomach was already growling, and she'd just had lunch. Pretty soon her frustrated thoughts of the schoolboy yokai were drowned out by the daydreams she was starting to have about food.
-X-
Kurama sat in class, pondering with his chin in his hand and his elbow on his desk, not even bothering to pretend to listen to the sensei while his thoughts wandered.
So, she wasn't in their class. But she was almost sixteen. Maybe she'd be boosted up sooner or later and he would find out more about her if she got into his class. Would he actually like to know more about her?
Yes. She interests you.
But she was a bit hot-headed.
So are you. Plus, it can be an attractive trait.
Hmm. Yes, but was she worth his time? So few people were.
If you can make time for those thousands of strangers that you sing to for a career, then you can make time for one girl that happens to catch your attention. The only girl who's really caught your attention since Nanami.
Suddenly, he found himself fingering his lips and smiling wryly.
Yes, the kiss wasn't all that unpleasant...despite her unresponsiveness, it sort of... tingled...hmm... maybe it wasn't a total let down that it wasn't in fact Nanami who he had kissed.
"Uh, Kurama?"
He jumped a little, the sweet voice of said Land God interrupting his thoughts. He looked up at her.
"The bell rang a little bit ago. Everyone's filing out. Are you okay?" She cocked her head to the side rather cutely while she questioned him. Kurama felt himself sigh inwardly.
"He's probably just sulking because of the girl we met earlier. She happened to not be obsessed with him. Poor crow." Tomoe said dully, looking extremely worn out from having run around earlier until he finally found Nanami with her friends. On top of that, he had had to sit through the rest of these boring human classes in this dreadful place called a school. He really just wanted to go home now. Maybe, if the rules weren't what they were here and he could bring as much sake as he wanted with him, he'd be able to stand being here for most of the day.
Nanami looked perplexed. Then she seemed to nod her head, as if suddenly remembering.
"Oh, when you guys were out of class for a bit, is that what you were doing? Meeting someone new? Who is it?"
"You'd like her." Kurama heard the familiar say offhandedly. "She stood up to Kurama and even to me. It was almost intimidating... for a human girl." He added the last part on with a 'tch' sort of sound escaping his lips.
Nanami put her hands on her hips and glared up at the fox. "'For a human girl'? And just what do you mean by that, Tomoe?"
While the two of them began bickering, Kurama suddenly made a decision, and abruptly stood up.
"I'm going to go find her. I have to make her see just how amazing I truly am." He said, maneuvering around the pair and heading towards the open door. Under his breath, he began mumbling. "I can't believe how rude she was being to me, pushing me away from her, even after I kissed her! Nobody just brushes me aside like that!"
And besides... you are curious about her. Admit it. You couldn't help it even if you tried. You want to know more about her.
His inner voice was as persistent as ever.
The classroom door slammed shut behind him, leaving Nanami and her familiar to their argument.
"You're such a jerk Tomo – hey, where'd Kurama go?" The Land God blinked when the door slammed shut. The Idol was nowhere to be seen, and apparently she hadn't heard what he had said before he left.
Tomoe had somewhat been paying attention though. "He went to find that girl we were talking about." His lips curved up into a grin. "Hah, he just can't take even a little pinch to his ego, can he? How utterly pathetic."
Nanami reached up, and actually pinched him.
"Ouch!" He hissed, pulling away from her with a glare.
"You're no different. Your ego is just as big as his is. In fact, it's not just you two. All men's egos need to be constantly nursed, because secretly you're all insecure children and that's the reason why you're always competing with one another. You crave attention waaay too much." She said this as if it were a matter of fact, and not just her own opinion.
Tomoe sneered. "You women are no better than us men. You're ten times more insecure, and also needy, helpless, constantly nagging –"
"Let's go find that girl. If she's new here I want to meet her." Nanami said in a chipper tone, turning on her heel and completely ignoring what Tomoe was saying.
"O – oi! Don't just run off on your own again!" Tomoe grabbed her hand, taking it in his as they walked towards the door. "Why would you want to meet her, anyway? I say we just go home already."
"If she's new around here, she might need a friend! I want to meet her, Tomoe!"
The fox stared down his human master.
"No."
"Yeah, I do!"
"No, I mean 'no' as in you don't get to."
"But I want to."
"But I said 'no'."
"But that's no fair!"
"Isn't it fair enough that you have my undying loyalty to cherish for as long as you wish to have it?" He groaned, looking more and more weary by the second.
He really should have realized the mistake in saying those words before he had spoken them aloud for her to hear.
"My dear loyal Tomoe, take me to that girl, I want to meet her. After all, you said that I would like her so take me to her right NOW!" Nanami said with power in her voice, her bright eyes striking a masterful gaze right through his.
The fox picked up the pace, walking stiffly due to not wanting to obey but having no choice in the matter, and Nanami was smiling happily at getting her way. They followed after the tengu, who had already disappeared down the hallway, following the cursed, bleak aura that emitted itself from the strange girl he had kissed. He was currently doing his best searching for long dark brunette hair in the crowd of girls that magically flocked their way around him like chickens to a kernel of food. Sexy, singing, demonic, 'food'.
A/N: Just so you know, I really do think that the pairing of KuramaXAmi is quite cute, however –
I wanted to do an OC for Kurama, and so, not wanting anyone to be upset because Ami would be sad if Kurama liked someone else, I gave her a boyfriend that she's happy with so she doesn't like Kurama so there's no broken heart there. ^_^ Cuz really, she's an adorable character and deserves all the best kinds of happiness. So I gave her a lovely boyfriend. And Kurama can have my OC Hizuru.
Now that everyone is happy, I just want to say, I love writing this because I love Kurama (I also love Tomoe, and Mizuki, and Nanami, and -well- pretty much ALL the characters of Kamisama Hajimemashita) and I really like the idea of him having someone too, someone like Tomoe has like Nanami, but not completely the same... you know? Yes, you know. Wait, do you know? Just nod with me in agreement. *Viewers nod their heads* Okay good.
Review and I'll send you many cyber hugs \|^_^|/ Critique or just simple thoughts on the chapters never fails to keep me motivated!
Fun fact: The last name of my OC and my OC's sister and also their caretaker, 'Mimori', is taken from the name of the person who does the voice for both Nanami's and Yukiji's characters in the anime.
To conclude, I love you my dear readers! :) Just like how Hizuru loves Miso Soup and Nikuman! (Nikuman is Japanese Steamed Pork Buns, for those of you who were unaware) Anywho, thank you very much for reading.
