The sound of Joe's sneakers rubbed against the tall grass, making swishing sounds with every step.

"My Dad's a deputy. He's back in Seattle", he told me.

"You miss him?"

"Yeah, especially Lucy".

"Who?"

"Lucy My dog. She's a real beauty. Here, I have a picture". He pulled out a small picture from his pocket. I saw a picture of a cute puppy, sitting on Joe's lap.

"Aww, that's such a pretty dog!", I exclaimed.

"Told you she was pretty".

We reached the end of the field, now standing in front of two far apart poles with a thick chain connecting them. I sat down on the chain and he followed me.

We stopped talking for a while. I noticed the sky's colours, the sun setting. The mellowness of the now orange sun, surrounded by the pastel purples and pinks and swirled together. It screamed August. The end of August. Of Summer. A nostalgic feeling came over me, the feeling I get every year when I know this isn't going to last. The freedom, the fun, the specialness of the end. The only thing that sets this year apart from any other random year of my life is him. Joe.

The clocks ticking, and I'm praying for more time.

I turned and kissed his cheek very softly, barley touching him. I slowly backed away to look into the sunset again.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Joe putting his lips on my neck, gently.

I giggled foe some weird reason, probably because I couldn't stand the fact that I haven't kissed him yet, and that we were going so slow. The sun was going to set at this pace we're going at.

I placed my hand on his cheek so he'd look at me. Then I kissed him. It started gentle but grew a little stronger.

He stopped me first. "The sun's setting, we better get going".

I didn't mind the kiss didn't last long. It meant something.

He took his hand in mine, and started a slow pace back to the barbecue.

By the time we got back, the sun had set completely, being washed out by the deep blue, sprinkled with stars. I lead Joe to the back yard and we lay down on the grass.

I searched for the brightest star I could see and named it after him. Joe.
