Chapter 1 : And So She Returns

Hunter sat beside Sky, teaching Kithic the more advanced runes in Wicca. Morgan's absence was decidedly conspicuous and Robbie and Bree constantly exchanged significant glances. Hunter studiously ignored them, sticking to runes instead. Admittedly, he'd been angry when Morgan broke up with him for such stupid reasons, but her avoiding his circles was beyond stupidity. He understood she needed her space, so she's getting it now, but if she didn't come for next week's circle as well, then it was time for a talk.

He had felt that sudden need to hit Morgan over the head and hopefully get some sense back into her when she broke up with him, but years of training and his experience as a Seeker had rationalized with his mind and won out, so he told her he loved her instead. He'd let her go, knowing that if they were destined to be, if they were really muirn bretha dan's, they'd find their way back to each other. If they weren't… well, they'd have to have been apart to figure that out, right?

He was midway through explaining the rune of calm when he felt her. She was coming up the driveway to the front door. Hunter was surprised. What was she doing here? The last time he had seen her; she'd run off crying and refused to see him again. Her being here could only mean one thing: he was in deep, deep, trouble. Glancing at Sky, he could tell she felt her, too, but couldn't quite place the aura.

Then he realized Kithic was staring at him and he had broke off quite abruptly before. He stood out and mumbled something in excuse. "Um… I've got some things to take care of right now… so…Sky will continue and I'll see you all next week." And then he ran out the door. The eleven remaining members of Kithic stared after him as he hastily went out the door into the hall beyond. Then the door slammed shut and they saw no more.

"Well. That was fast. Don't worry about it, there's always something else that's wrong with the world he needs to fix. We'll go on now, then." It was more of a statement rather than a question. They heard a faint, feminine cry of "Hunter!" from the general direction of the front door then the rune of strength and Sky regained their attention.

Hunter's P.O.V.

What on earth is she doing here?

I grabbed my coat on the way to answer the front door, goddess knows why. Probably something to do while talking to her. When I pulled open the front door, she stood there, framed in the doorway, looking mildly surprised. It certainly didn't take too long before she reacted, though.

"Hunter!"

I was quickly engulfed in her slightly smaller self, staggering backwards a few steps after she literally threw herself at me. I hugged her back. I was genuinely happy to see her, but incessantly worried, too. This was a drastic change to the angry, upset girl I'd left back in England. Besides, if she'd traveled from England to America, things could not be good back home.

When we pulled apart, I gave her a big, friendly smile hoping she wouldn't suddenly remember she was supposed to be really angry with me and that her seemingly good mood would last.

"Krystl! Hello, love. What brings you all the way to small town Widow's Vale, America?"

She smiled and stepped inside. "What, now I've been denied visitation rights to my ex-boyfriend?"
