So, I decided to take up the challenge of writing a Zuki fanfiction. :p Just stretching my writing wings, I'm Zutara forever. But I have always been intrigued by the idea of a romance between Zuko and Suki.
Anyways, enjoy this prologue! :)
I don't own ATLA. Just sayin'.
A Bride for Zuko: Always
18th November 2012
Nobody ever mentioned the nerves.
As Zuko stood at the helm of the Fire Nation palace courtyard, dressed in his heavy Fire Lord formal robes with his ragged dark hair swept up into a topknot secured by a small crown in the shape of a golden flame, surrounded by hundreds of representatives and close friends from all four nations, nerves coiled low in the pit of his stomach.
Nobody ever mentioned this part of the wedding, he thought irritably. It didn't help that the wound he had taken on his right arm was starting to throb and he could feel blood seeping through the bandages wrapped around his abdomen.
He winced as he felt a finger poke him sharply in the ribs from behind.
"Stand up straight, nephew," Uncle Iroh hissed at him. "Bad posture reflects a poor personality."
Zuko scowled and was just about to make a very snappy retort when suddenly; there was a gasp somewhere at the back of the crowd. He inhaled sharply as the crowd parted like the Red Sea – and the entire world just peeled away as she appeared and their eyes met.
He wasn't a Fire Lord anymore. He was just a man and she was just a woman and they were getting married because they were in love.
Nothing else mattered.
He watched as she made her way over to him, her smile bright and glittering upon her face. As she came to stand beside him, he realized there was something he still needed to know.
"Do you love me?" he whispered it into her ear, softly; a secret that belonged only to the two of them.
She laughed a little and the crystal sound pierced his heart.
"Always."
Read, review and favourite. Haters be damned.
