Title: One Letter
Summary: For the first time in his life, James Potter is completely powerless to help someone who needs his help more than ever. Lily Evans receive a letter that no one ever wants to receive, and yet with the rising threat from Voldemort, far too many will have to.
She looked at me with tears in her eyes; her trembling hands were gripping the letter so tightly that her knuckles blanched.
"Get away from me!" Her shouts resonated with deepest despair as her tear-filled green eyes nearly met my own. She looked as though her knees were about to buckle, and her body might break down at any moment. I made to put my hand on her shoulder comfortingly, but she shook her shoulder away from my touch.
"Lily," my voice was as soothing and placid as I could manage with my entire body shaking from fright and desperation.
"GET AWAY FROM ME!" She screamed and shoved me forcefully with both of her hands, and I fell backwards onto the cold, stone floor. She ran up the stairs and away from me in the direction of the girls' dormitories, stifling the influx tears in the corners of her eyes. I stared at her as she left, and when she was out of site, I stared at the empty space where she had been. It was different this time, and I wasn't sure if it would ever be the same.
A/N: I know I didn't tell you before, but this is a drabble-esque one shot that may be incorporated somehow into my longer work in progress, In Hearts We Leave Behind. So if you enjoyed this or hated it, please review and consider checking out my other story.
