Sesshomaru refused to feel foolish despite his mother's laughter over his situation. So what if he had done the unthinkable and had fallen in love with a human, and a twice dead and low-born one at that. At least when his father had done it, the human woman was a princess, making that useless hanyou brother of his a true prince. But his beloved Rin was just a lowly waif, unloved and unwashed when he had first met her, and yet… Sesshomaru found that did not matter in the least.

Now she was a woman of some breeding, learned in ways of both human and youkai alike, and Sesshomaru felt a certain pride in that accomplishment. So what if he was besotted with her? He failed to see the humor in it, while thoroughly grasping the irony of the situation. He did not know who found it funnier, his mother or his stupid brother, Inuyasha. He wished they could see just how perfect they were for each other, she, very talkative and he, quiet and taciturn, not to mention the fact that he was a powerful taiyoukai and she a delicate, fragile human.

Now, in the quiet of the night, in his rooms in the palace, he wished they could see her as he did, as a loving mate, who tempered his restless soul and gave him something to fight for other than himself. He would treasure her always and if that was the height of foolishness… then so be it. Besides, he had better things to think about, like pleasuring his beautiful, and oh so human, Rin.
