This little fic was motivated by a rumor floating around, regarding an upcoming storyline.

The rumor involved Jeffrey turning out to be a Spaulding, and since actors Grant Aleksander and Brad Cole are the same age, this idea popped, unbidden, into my noggin. Not being fond of the idea of Jeffrey turning out to be the not-so-stillborn baby, I came up with this slight fan fic alternative.

From Beyond the Grave

By Kali

Alan: "Oh, please! What kind of naïve fool do you take me for?! You think I didn't see my son's body!? Touch it!? Bury it?! Losing a child is a very painful experience. How dare you cheapen it with your innuendo!"

Jeffrey: "This, coming from a guy who replaced his dead baby with a baby he stole."

Alan: "I didn't steal Phillip. My God, after I left Elizabeth, Jackie threw herself at me repeatedly. She knew Phillip was her son, and she did anything she had to, to get me to marry her."

Phillip: "Okay, so did not want to picture that."

Alan: "Now, if I had "stolen" him, as you claimed Well, you're a lawyer think about it!! It was a very difficult situation. My wife was very unstable, emotionally, at the time. I was afraid that she couldn't handle the death of our baby."

Jeffrey: "So you replaced him. What, are kids like puppies to you?"

Phillip: "Please, continue, "Dad," I'd really like to hear your answer."

Alan: "Phillip, it wasn't like that. It was difficult painful I had to pretend to the whole world that everything was fine, when I had just buried my first born."

Phillip: "And you resented me for that, didn't you?"

Alan: "Phillip"

Phillip: "Didn't you!? It's an easy question. Yes or no."

Alan: "I. Yes."

Phillip: "Yeah, well, thanks for being honest."

Alan: "Phillip, wait! Maybe Jeffrey is right, in a way. When someone loses a pet, it's hard. You can't hope to replace him, because the thing that made you love him, is gone. You can, however, take in another, and give him a home, and love. It wouldn't be the same. But, in a way, it'd be the best way to honor his memory."

Phillip: "Great, so now you're saying that you think you honored your child's memory by replacing him with me, and leaving him in an unmarked grave?"

Alan: "Not unmarked. Not anymore. I had the body moved to the family mausoleum."

Phillip: "When?"

Alan: "After you found out the truth."

Jeffrey: "This is all well and good. But I'm not dead."

Alan: "Obviously. And you are not my son, either."
