Orange metal has a strange ability to catch sunlight; the glare hurts Jack's eyes. He, in turn, glares at the bird droppings that adorn the structure.

"Sometimes I wish they'd go away."

"Who, the seagulls?"

"Yeah."

Dave frowns. "Birds aren't that bad, y'know."

"If I slipped on that shit, I wouldn't be able to stop myself from falling."

"Maybe you'd fly." A chuckle.

"Heh, I doubt it."

"There are some...falcons, I think, that can hurl themselves towards the ocean and grab a snake out of the water."

Blink. "Snakes can swim?"

"Obviously the talents of the birds haven't impressed you much."

Snort. "Of course not. I already know how to capture a snake."

"You do, huh?" Raised eyebrow. "Usually you're not this cryptic."

"You're right, I'm not." Wry smile.

"So. How do you capture a snake?"

The instant is a balancing act in more ways than one -- carefully structured sentences and not-plummeting-to-his-death both vie for his attention. A third distraction proves to be the most important.

"Really want to know?" Tease.

"Yup."

Tempting fate, Jack trusts his feet (perhaps a bit too much) to carry him safely across the small distance of slippery-steel. With the way the wind whips around them, his hair might as well be feathers. He drapes his arms over strong shoudlers, skullsuit on skin. Leans in.

"Like this."

Poka zhiva ya mogu starat'sya na letu ne upast'
Ne razuchit'sya mechtat'...lyubit'

While I'm alive, I can try not to fall while flying
Not to forget how to dream... how to love

(Original LJ note!) God help me if I ever try to post this to FFN. It'll probably hate the Russian. XO According to it means "seagull," but who knows. I haven't learned enough words yet.

Apparently there's a Russian magazine called "Seagull." Guess I was right. 8D;;
