"Mommy!"
Regina's eyes fluttered open as she heard the cries of her little man down the hall. She tried to remove herself from Robin's embrace but he had a protective hold on her. Her head fit perfectly into the crook of his neck and his hand was placed gently on her stomach. She inched away from him trying not to wake him but failed.
"Where do you think you're going?" He asked as he carefully climbed over her and found her neck in the dark. He left wet kisses down her neck and all thought began to flee her.
"Mommy!"
They had both heard it this time. Roland's soft cries once again echoed through the dark house. Robin sighed. He was beginning to get concerned. This was the fourth night in a row that Roland had suffered a nightmare and it was always the same one. Robin began to get up but Regina quickly grabbed his wrist.
"I'll go."
"You need to rest my love."
"It's fine. He's calling for me tonight anyways."
Regina lifted herself from the bed and fumbled through the dark hallway of their mansion. As she approached Roland's room she immediately saw the dim blue light coming from the night light that Roland refused to sleep without. She pushed the cracked door open and flicked on the light to reveal her distraught four-year old's tear stained face.
"Oh sweetheart." Regina's heart broke seeing him like this. The usual bubbly and happy Roland was now a teary mess. "Did you have a bad dream again?" She asked as she approached his bed and sat on the side of it. As soon as she did, Roland launched himself at her and buried himself into her chest. "Careful sweetheart. Remember what mommy and daddy told you."
"Sorry mommy." He whimpered into her chest. "The monkey came to get me again." Regina listened as he began to cry. She rubbed gentle circles into his back, trying to sooth him.
"Ro, what did I tell you last night when you had this dream?" Roland looked up at her before answering.
"That the scawy monkeys are gone." Regina nodded.
"And what else?"
"That you and papa won't never let anything bad happen to me."
"That's right." Regina bent to place a kiss on his nose as she ruffled through his thick dark brown curls.
"The monkeys are gone and you are safe. It was just a dream." She said as she wiped his tears away. "Okay?"
"Okay." He said wearily.
"Do you think you can go back to sleep now?" Roland thought before answering.
"I guess so... can you stay with me?"
"Of course my little knight." She smiled down at him as she began to tuck him back under his sheets. "I'll stay right here until you fall asleep."
"I love you." Regina's heart lit up as she heard those words leave the once again sleepy toddler.
"I love you too Roland." She confessed as she stroked his cheek.
"I'm really happy you're my mommy now." He said as he let out a yawn.
"And I am very happy to be your new mommy." She bent over and kissed his forehead.
"Mommy?" He asked sleepily.
"Yes sweetheart?"
"When the new baby comes, are you still gonna be my mommy?" Regina sat quietly for a moment. She was taken aback by the question.
"Of course Roland. We're a family now and I will be your mommy no matter what. Understand?" She watched the little boy as he nodded. "I will always love you and so will your papa and your new baby sister. Okay?"
"Okay." She barely heard him say as he drifted back off to sleep.
Robin watched as his beautiful pregnant wife came back into the room.
"Everything okay?" He asked as she lied back next to him.
"Everything's perfect." She said as she snuggled into him.
"Good." He placed a sweet kiss on her lips and traveled down to her stomach to place a kiss there as well. "Daddy can't wait for you to get here." Regina giggled as she watched him talk to her baby bump.
"Two more months." He said, now speaking to Regina.
"Two more months." She agreed.
