All of the people mentioned are real historical figures.

On a cold and rainy December evening, England found his lover sprawled out on the couch, staring off into space.

Cautiously, he addressed the younger nation. "America?"

The nation jumped a mile in the air.

"England! I didn't see you there!" he exclaimed.

England smiled fondly. "What were you doing with your head in the clouds?"

America shrugged. "Just thinking, I guess."

England nodded. "What were you thinking about?" he asked curiously.

America sighed. "I was just wondering what George would think of, you know, us."

England raised an eyebrow. "George Washington?"

"Who else would I mean?"

England frowned. "There have been a lot of men named George. How was I supposed to know which one you meant? You could have been talking about George W. Bush for all I knew."

America grinned. "Or George Clooney."

"George Lopez."

"George Foreman."

"George Harrison."

"George Orwell."

"George Washington Carver."

"George Lucas."

"George H. W. Bush."

"George Patton, Jr."

"George Westinghouse."

"George III."

England almost choked. "Bloody hell, I don't even want to think about what he'd think of us."

America stuck his nose in the air snobbishly and assumed a very bad aristocratic British accent. "Upstart American colony!" he sniffed. "How dare he think himself equal to the mighty British Empire!"

He could barely finish speaking before he burst out laughing. England was in a similar state, attempting to catch his breath between his laughs. Finally, he settled down.

"Dear God, America," he said with a chuckle. "I'm not quite sure that it is appropriate to laugh at a monarch. Whatever would Her Majesty think?"

America just laughed.

"I'm afraid we got a bit off topic, though," England continued. "You were wondering what President Washington would think of our relationship?"

"I did mean it as a real serious question, England."

"He really means a lot to you, doesn't he?" England asked.

America smiled wistfully. "There's a reason he's called the Father of America. We were really close, and I looked up to him. I couldn't have become a nation without him."

"I think he would be happy for us, America. Happy that we worked out our differences. Happy that you are happy." England paused. "You are happy, aren't you?"

"Of course I'm happy!" America assured him.

"And that's what matters, isn't it?"

America apparently agreed, for he chose that moment to passionately kiss the other nation.

After all, they knew how each other felt. Who needed the rest of the world?
