So I'm new to writing fanfic, though there's been countless times I've wanted to write something. I'm only up to ep.7 in the series which I only watched a few hours ago - and my heart almost broke seeing Wade's reaction at the end. This short drabble about how he's feeling was the culmination of my imagination, excellent video clips, frantic writing and not doing house jobs like I should be. Hope it's alright.
I don't own Hart of Dixie. If I did, I'd be giving Wade a big "feel better" hug right about now.
"Oooh, you might want to sneak ou' the back..." he teased, when he saw Judson enter the Rammer Jammer.
"No!" She said rather rashly, turning back to him. His smile faded a little at the look in her eyes and his heartbeat quickened when he realised this can't be leading anywhere good - for him. "I freaked out. I didn't give Judson a chance, but he is here, he is single and a real possibility-"
Wade eyes veered off away from her - at her pause in the sentence, his mind - always one to kick in at the most inappropriate moments - was rushing ahead to fill the gap with things he hoped she wouldn't say, like-
"-he could be awesome!" He hated how she seemed to stress that last bit. "Baby steps!"
Damn.
His smile had gone, not that she would have noticed, seeing as she was already making her way over to Judson. He continued to watch their interaction, rubbing down the condiments with a little more vigour than was necessary, trying to distract himself from what he knew could be his impending emotional doom. He tried to focus on the bottle in his hand, but their conversation came floating back to torment him further.
Time seemed to slow down and he felt somewhat sick to his stomach; as forcibly as he tried to concentrate on work and not their exchange, her words were like flies in his mind he couldn't swat away.
"I didn't give Judson a chance." What about him? Wasn't he worthy of a chance?
"He is here, he is single," So was he, right?
And hell, he could be awesome. They could be awesome.
Glancing up he licked his lips and swallowed, hard - his mouth had suddenly become very dry and he felt a little short of breath.
"You know what?" He heard Judson say in response to her proposal. His pause gave Wade a glimmer of hope. "I'd like that..." And that glimmer was extinguished.
He watched them share a smile and leave.
He might as well self-combust on the spot.
Now his work duties were on auto-pilot and his nonsensical thoughts went back into overdrive.
He took one last look at where they'd been standing - where she'd been standing. If anyone had paid much attention to him, they would have seen pain in his eyes. Pain you only get when you know you may have lost something that you won't likely get back – like a heart not in a thousand pieces or your chance to be with the girl you've been falling in love with since you don't quite know when.
While reviewing would be nice, it's not mandatory. Feel free to PM me too if you fancy a HoD chat.
I'm now going to do some more reading and HoD clip watching and maybe find something else to write and upload. And maybe one day I'll get around to all those house jobs I've neglected.
