"Have you seen her hair today? It's like a rats nest."

Hermione stood holding a mound of hardbacks, leaning on a bookshelf in the library obscured from the girls view by a stack of books. She knew who they were, she knew those voices.

"I know, I mean seriously has she heard of a brush! Sometimes I just want to charm her hair straight." "Yeah and she always flicks her hair back like its pretty during class. I bet she gets her grades by sleeping with the professors. I bet Snape would go for hair like that." The girls giggled.

At this point Hermione couldn't stand it, she dropped her books on the floor and ran. She couldn't believe that after seven years of living with Lavender and Parvati they would say such things about her! She sprinted out of the library as Madam Pince yelled after her, salt tears streaming down her face.

Hermione didn't know which way she was running, her main prospect was to get away, so she ended running into the dungeons. She started slowing as she realized where she was and turned a corner. Bang. She had hit something, something soft, something warm, something that now lay underneath her. She realized while looking into deep blue/grey eyes that it wasn't a something, but a someone. It wasn't until she looked away from those eyes a few inches away from her own that she saw the blond hair and the pointed face.

Draco hated being that close to her, it hade him remember that he couldn't have her. His father had slapped him when he had mentioned that he liked a muggle-born during the summer of his first year, and told him he couldn't talk to her unless he insulted her. Draco would rather say mean things, then not talk to her at all.

She sprang up embarrassed as Draco Malfoy stood up slowly holding his back and wincing, "You could watch were you're going mud blood!" Draco then looked up at her tear stained cheeks and smirked. "Why are you crying? I hope someone hurt you." The feeling of complete hate overwhelmed Hermione as she threw herself on Malfoy knocking them both over. She pounded every inch of him she could get at before her over powered her and flipped them over. He sat, straddling her with a confused look on his face, normally Granger never reacted to his comments like this. "What the hell was that for?"

Hermione glared at him, how dare he question her anger, "You had had it coming you filthy little rat." Her hair was even bushier than it normally was and it was obscuring her view but as Malfoy held her hands so she couldn't move it.

"All I did was ask a civil question and you attacked me." Malfoy noticed Hermione trying to blow hair out of her face and he, unthinkingly, reached out and tucked it behind her ear.

Hermione's cheeks flushed at his touch and she stared at him. "Why did you do that?" she asked in a less menacing voice.

Draco was too busy gazing at her cherry lips to think about what he was saying so he blurted out "I couldn't see your pretty eyes."

Hermione stared at him, "you think my eyes are pretty?"

Turning red, Draco tried to sound nonchalant as he said "umm yeah and your hair is cute."

That was all Hermione needed, she leaned in and kissed him softly on the lips. She didn't care who he was what he had said, he liked her hair which Parvati said looked like a rat's nest. Draco weakened at the kiss and Hermione shoved him softly off her as she got up and walked off, out of the dungeons.

The next day as Hermione was walking to breakfast she saw Parvati and Lavender chatting by a portrait of 5 men stirring a cauldron. She walked right up to them flicked her brown hair back as she said in a confident voice "Guys dig rats!"
