Sickly Birth
It was a dark cool morning in Waycross of 2013. Due to a 4am wakeup call I was on my way to the birthing center. My aunt Mel was in labor. A bit mad, I sprang up and started down there. Soon I was there.
"Hey guys I'm here." I said knocking on the door.
"Come in." Ying replied. As she opened the door, I heard Melanie moan through it. She sounded wilted and weak. As Ying closed the door behind her, I could hear the choking sound that usually accompanied Melanie's vomiting. She was having a hard labor.
"Janie you made it. Mel wants you here." She said.
"You guys should've woken me up." I said irritated. She led me into the room. There was Aunt Mel lying on the bed. Her face was emaciated body was thin and boney, save her distended belly. Her eyes were dark and sunken in. As she noticed my presence, she tried to raise her head. She was weak.
"Angel you made it." She said weakly smiling a bit.
"I wouldn't miss this for the world." I said.
"I'm glad. Could you replace Nancy? She's doing ok, but you're the better birth partner." She replied weakly. Suddenly her body seized up. She seemed to wrath in pain momentarily before letting out a grunt. Suddenly her hand shot out grabbing mine as her pain peaked. Then as quickly as it came, the pain left her sweating and breathing heavily on the bed.
"Aunt Mel, are you alright?" I asked as she continued to shake.
"God Angel, it hurts, I'm so weak and it hurts." She said weakly. She was in great pain. Her face said that much. I had to help so I propped her up slightly and began to rub her shoulders slowly. She eventually relaxed.
"How does that feel Aunt Mel?" I asked.
"Positively divine Angel." She said warmly but weakly. She suddenly went tense. She winced with pain as her body spasmed. As her pain peaked, she reached out grabbing my hand weakly. She shook, before releasing. It was an intense contraction. Suddenly she began to spasm before she leaned over the bed and vomited blood in the garbage. She was shaking and her head fell. She was weak. I could tell she was weakened this ordeal had strained her as was apparent from her bones popping.
"Aunt Mel you need rest." I said sweetly.
"I'll try Angel." She replied weakly.
"Just try and relax Aunt Mel." I said.
"It hurts Angel." She replied. Elizabeth came in after a few minutes. She walked over to Melanie and began to check her. She looked up. She seemed worried. Her face said it all.
"Mel I'm concerned about the delivery. You're 8 centimeters now but I don't think your body can handle a natural birth right now, considering in your condition." Elizabeth said.
"I'm doing a natural birth." Melanie refused weakly.
