Jane heard Maura insert her key into the lock of her door. "She must know I'm already here." Jane thought to herself. "Why hasn't she called for me?" The TV was on a Sports channel and was fairly loud, Jo Friday was barking and Bass had just walked into something causing a loud crash. It puzzled Jane as to why the blonde hadn't said anything yet.
The brunette stood and made her way over to the door where Maura still stood, coat dropped to the floor, heels shed and her head in her hands muffling cries.
"Maur? Hey, what happened?" Jane pulled the smaller into her arms and released quickly to let Maura speak, keeping the blonde's hands in her own.
"Hope came to see me today..." Maura's voice hitched, "Cailin's op went well but she died yesterday. Her body rejected my kidney." Maura began to cry. The type of crying you do when you're really in pain. "It's all my fault! I killed my sister!" Maura's whole body began to shake and once again the detective took her into her arms, this time until the crying stopped. Jane cupped Maura's chin, "Listen to me." Jane made sure Maura was looking dead into her eyes before she carried on, "This is not your fault. There was nothing you could do to prevent anything. Don't beat yourself up about it." The detective laughed when she saw the look on Maura's face at her turn of phrase. She kissed the top of the smaller woman's head lightly before repeating the action several times peppering kisses in various places until she reached Maura's forehead. They looked into each others eyes and Jane could instantly tell that Maura had began to cheer up. The detective tilted her head to the side and leaned forward gently placing a kiss on the doctor's lips. She pulled back abruptly before saying "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done that." She parted her lips to speak again and Maura stood on her toes and kissed her back.
"Don't be." There was another kiss before the blonde said "Do you know how long I've wanted to do that?"
"It can't be as long as I've been waiting." Jane laughed and Maura wasn't sure how to react.
"Well unless you knew it when you saw me, then I've beat you." A smug smile played on Maura's lips as she took the detective into her arms before whispering "I really do love you." into the crook of Jane's neck. Jane stepped back, Maura still in her arms, kissed her head again and whispered back, "I love you too."
