Maybe
The prince and his new waterbending bride were standing off, talking to a group of encouraging villagers. The now twenty year old and 18 year old had fought over the location of the ceremony so they had settled on a neutral: the Earth Kingdom. Everyone had come. And all were laughing and smiling, grinning and stuffing their faces. Except for one airbender, of course.
Aang was standing towards the back, staring at the sight. It was finally sinking in. He'd lost her. He wasn't as naïve as everyone believed, he'd been able to tell the growing emotions between them. He just hadn't quite believed it yet. He sighed. He sure had to believe it now.
As he stood there in thought a small voice greeted his ears, "Hello."
He turned around. His eyes bulged. It couldn't be. "Who…"
"You don't recognize me? Don't worry, I barely do. It's me, Meng. You do remember me, right?" Her voice had a bit of panic at the end.
"Of course. You've just changed so much…"
"Not really. My hair still wont lie down flat…" she pushed down on the bun on top of her head and it bounced back up. "And my teeth still seem to hate me." The gap in her teeth was barely noticeable now. Didn't she know that?
"I barely noticed it. You look nice. What are you doing here?"
"How could I miss this? Maybe the war will stop for good."
"Yeah, maybe."
They sat in a comfortable silence for a second.
"I just can't believe it, though."
"Why, because she's finally married off? She's your friend. Shouldn't you be happy for her?"
"Yeah. I guess I should be. I guess I just always thought…" He trailed off.
"Let me guess, you thought you'd be the one up there standing beside her?"
"Sort of," she raised an eyebrow, "yeah, I suppose I did."
"Guess it just wasn't what fate had in plan for you two. She found someone, maybe you will too. I'm sure she's just around the corner." She smiled, brushed off her dress, and walked off toward Toph and Sokka who were doing their strange, violent rendition of flirting.
Maybe, he thought, or maybe she's already here. He smiled and followed.
It's a little piece of Meang (I believe they call it), I figured since I like this pairing and there isn't much of it I'd try my hand at it. Incase you haven't noticed, I didn't do very well at my try. I'll just have to keep working at it, huh?
