It had taken months. Hell, it had been nearly a year before Marcus admitted to himself that Seth had claimed a spot in his heart. But the moment that he had let himself believe it he had felt stronger. More… well not alive, since he hadn't been that for centuries… but something.
The shifter that Aro had demanded in return for leaving the rest of the pack in peace had slowly gotten used to living in Volterra. It had taken a couple of weeks but he had eventually found the library, Marcus' sanctuary. Much to his surprise, since he could tell how used the shifter seemed to be to talking, he didn't. Seth had left him in peace as he struggled to learn Italian so he would be able to read the books in the library. It had been Marcus who finally offered to teach the boy the language.
It was the smile Seth had given him. The moment Seth had given him that smile Marcus saw the connection between them. He hadn't wanted to believe it at first… but it was undeniable.
Marcus entered Seth's room, his eyes immediately sneaking out the sleeping boy. He paused, reconsidering this for a moment, waiting until Seth was awake. No. He had come this far. Marcus would do what he had come to do. Going over to the bed he watched Seth sleep for a moment before reaching out and resting a hand on Seth's shoulder.
"Hm…?" Seth murmured as he blinked sleepily. Bringing a hand up he rubbed his eyes. "Marcus?"
"I'm sorry to wake you but I had something I had to say."
Seth yawned as he sat up. "It couldn't have waited til morning?"
Marcus shook his head. "No, it couldn't wait," he answered.
"Alright, what is it?"
"Seth…" Marcus took Seth's hand. "I love you."
